Exhibition Introduction

The history of the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum (Chongqing Museum) dates back to the early 1950s, when the Preparatory Committee of the Southwest Museum was established on March 8, 1951, and the Southwest Museum was officially established in October of the same year. On the basis of the collections of the Southwest Museum and the Chongqing Municipal Museum, after 70 years of accumulation, the hard work of several generations of cultural and cultural scholars, through handover and allocation, donations from people at home and abroad, and private purchases, the collection of calligraphy and paintings in chongqing China Three Gorges Museum has reached more than 10,000 pieces, of which more than 3,500 precious cultural relics (sets).

Thousands of miles, trickle into a river. Over the past 70 years, with the help of the vast number of enthusiastic museum people, the collection of calligraphy and painting series has been improved day by day, and now the collection of calligraphy and paintings has formed a series, and the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum has become one of the top museums in the quantity and quality of calligraphy and paintings collected by past dynasties in China.

In view of this, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum held the "Convergence of Hundred Rivers - Exhibition of Calligraphy and Paintings for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum" in the Exhibition Hall of Calligraphy and Painting on the 4th floor, which will be held from July 30 to December 31, 2021.

The exhibition is divided into four units according to the main sources of calligraphy and painting cultural relics in the collection, namely "Old Collection", "Transfer, Transfer", "Donation" and "Purchase". Among them, the "Old Collection" section also sorted out the source of the collection according to the collection of the Museum of Museum History, and exhibited for the first time the calligraphy works donated by Tian Han, the author of the national anthem lyrics, and Deng Shaoqin, the founder of the Beiquan Museum. In addition, the works of Ming and Qing dynasty calligraphers and painters such as Xia Chang, Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Wang Pet, Tang Yin, Chen Hongshou, Shi Tao, Zhu Yun, Wang Jian, Wang Yuanqi, Mei Qing, Gong Xian, Hua Zhao, Luo Ping, Yu Zhiding, Zheng Xie and other Ming and Qing dynasty calligraphers and painters will gather together to bring a visual feast in summer to the audience, and also show the achievements of cultural relics preservation and protection of the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing over the past 70 years.

The exhibition selects more than 70 pieces/sets of fine calligraphy and paintings from various sources over the past 70 years, including the Southern Song Dynasty's "Miscellaneous Courtyard Paintings", Yuan's "Xianshan Pavilion Map" and Ming Tang Yin's "Imitation of Han Xizai's Night Feast" and other treasures of the town museum. Among them, the Southern Song Dynasty's "Miscellaneous Courtyard Paintings" was exhibited for the first time.
