In the first five months of this year, Lexus sold a total of 72,275 new vehicles in China, a year-on-year increase of 33.4%, far exceeding the mid-to-high-end pure electric brand NIO. Among them, sales of electrified models (hybrid and plug-in hybrid) increased by 20.3% year-on-year, and sales of the main sales model ES increased by 58.2% year-on-year to 45,934 units in the same period.

Li Bin, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, said at the end of 2022: NIO is confident that it will surpass Lexus in sales in 2023! Although NIO has indeed continued its high growth, there is still a big gap between the market size and Lexus.

In terms of other models, the Lexus RX, a mid-to-large SUV, saw the most outstanding sales in the first five months of this year, surging 112% year-on-year to 12,824 units. The flagship MPV Lexus LM sold 1,500 units, up 40.6% year-on-year. The RZ Electric, RX Plug-in Hybrid, and NX Plug-in Hybrid sold 1,608 units, 786 units, and 266 units, respectively.

After in-depth adjustments, Lexus has significantly accelerated the pace of new car launches this year, and in the first five months, it has successively launched three upgraded products in the Chinese market: the new generation GX, the new UX 300h, and the 2024 NX. At the Beijing International Auto Show in April, Lexus also unveiled the next-generation all-electric concept model LF-ZC for the first time, and the all-electric flagship concept model LF-ZL, with the production version of the former scheduled to be launched in 2026.
