The reverse of the 8-gram round gold commemorative coin depicts a penguin and the polar research ship "Snow Dragon", supplemented by a combination of the outline of a partial Antarctic map, the locations of China's five Antarctic research stations, and a polar fixed-wing aircraft, as well as the words "40th Anniversary of China's Polar Scientific Expedition" and the denomination.
The reverse of the 30-gram round silver commemorative coin depicts the polar research ship "Snow Dragon 2", the ice core sampling work scene of the Chinese polar expedition team, and the polar bear, supplemented by the outline of the local Arctic map, the location of China's two Arctic expedition sites, the aurora and other combination designs, and the words "40th Anniversary of China's Polar Scientific Expedition" and the denomination.
In terms of the specifications and issuance of commemorative coins, the 8-gram round gold commemorative coin is a proof coin, containing 8 grams of pure gold, with a diameter of 22 mm, a denomination of 100 yuan, a fineness of 99.9%, and a maximum circulation of 10,000 pieces. The 30-gram round silver commemorative coin is a proof coin, containing 30 grams of sterling silver, with a diameter of 40 mm, a denomination of 10 yuan, a fineness of 99.9%, and a maximum circulation of 50,000 pieces.
