On November 27, Tesla responded to the accident. Tesla issued a document saying: Through checking the background data, it was found that when the collision occurred in the video, the accelerator pedal of the vehicle involved was pressed 100% deeply, and the speed of the vehicle increased from 54km/h to 132km/h at the time of the collision.

Regarding the vehicle's brake light on in the video, Tesla said that this is because the collision in the video is not the first collision, in fact, after the first collision, the vehicle's "multi-collision braking" function is triggered, so the brake light has been lit in the video. Background data also shows that the driver did not press the brake pedal for 2 seconds after the collision in the video.

According to the newly revised Technical Conditions for Motor Vehicle Operation Safety issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, from January 1, 2022, newly produced passenger cars shall be equipped with an event data recording system (EDR) that complies with the provisions of GB39732 or an on-board video driving recording system that complies with the provisions of GB/T 38892.

In addition, in October 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued the Regulations on the Administration of Road Motor Vehicle Production Access Permits (Draft for Comments), which clarifies that personal information and important data collected and generated by ICV manufacturers in the process of product sales and use shall be stored within China in accordance with the law. Where it is truly necessary to provide it overseas due to business needs, it shall pass a security assessment organized by the State Internet Information Department in conjunction with relevant departments such as for industry and information technology, and report to the relevant departments.
