LeBron James, be a friend of the old man
What is the state of LeBron James's 21st season? In a word, he seems to have become friends with the old man of time, and when time is pushing everyone forward, only James is left in place.
Just today, James scored his 39,000th career point. Although James has long become the NBA's scoring champion and has made history with every point since then, people still sigh at how amazing James has achieved at such a point in time.
At the age of 39, James was still nominated for the Weekly Awards. Against the Trail Blazers, James used goals or assists to score almost all of the Lakers' fourth-quarter scores.
Against the Rockets, James scored at least 35 points in the second consecutive game, and caused a foul at the last moment to complete the quasi-kill, Dillon couldn't pull him, this game, in the case of six fouls with thick eyebrows, James also used goals or assists to almost cover all the Lakers' last 9 minutes.
You can clearly feel that James is really adjusting his style of play this season, and he is focusing more on the final quarter tiebreaker. He would often play the entire fourth quarter and stay focused throughout the game.
So far this season, James has averaged 9.2 points per game in the final quarter, ranking first in the league. James has shot the highest percentage of any player who has taken more than 70 shots in the paint this season at 81.7 percent, followed by Antetokounmpo at 80.9 percent.
He ranks 2nd in the league in fast-break scoring, 4th in the league in turnovers and 8th in inside scoring. At least at this point in time, I think James is still in the top 10 in the league.
After 13 games, James is averaging 26.4 points per game, 11th in the league. If nothing else, James will average 25+ points per game for the 20th consecutive season after playing this season, which is incredible to think about.
In his 21st season, James is still setting new heights in his career. 58.6 percent shooting from the field is a career-high, 67.1 percent true shooting is a career-high, and 39.7 percent three-point shooting is the second-highest of a career.
James averaged 16.9 shots per game 5.3 fewer than last season, but averaged just 2.5 fewer points per game. He's greatly improved his efficiency on the offensive end, and hell knows how.
When he went 0-of-6 from three-point range in two straight games in early November, you thought James' three-pointers would continue to be iron. But he shot 16-of-31 three-pointers in the next five games, shooting more than 50 percent from the field and scoring the second-oldest triple-double in history, starting with Malone (40).
What is even more admirable is that James still maintains his passion for basketball at this age. Early in the season, Ham said he wanted to control James' playing time, and when the team hit an injury, James played longer than expected, but he had no complaints.
He's still the first player to warm up in the arena before every game, and he's still focused enough on the pitch. After the game, James will also take a hyperbaric oxygen chamber + ice water bath to condition his body.
We all know that James spends millions of dollars every year to condition his body, which is the foundation of his condition. More importantly, he still loves basketball at this age and will still take it as seriously as he did more than a decade ago, which is the biggest reason why James can get to where he is today.
After the last fight, James said: "This is my matchup with Old Man Time, and I'm trying to change people's perceptions. He did it, and it refreshed people's perception of a basketball player who was close to 39 years old.
Three years ago, we were talking about James getting older, and three years later, James still has the upper hand in the showdown with Old Man Time. From a long time ago, James's opponent has become the old man of time, they catch up with each other, love and kill each other.
No one can outrun the old man, but if you are disciplined and determined enough, and keep enough enthusiasm for something, the old man will also look at you. He will cast a spell on you to slow down the decay of time on your body.
Old Man Time is always silent, but he can tell you all the answers.
