China has a total of 15 National Day military parades from 1949 to 2022.
There were 10 times between 1949 and 1959 (1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959).
A total of 5 times from 1960 to 2022 (1984, 1999, 2009, 2019). In Chinese history books, the earliest record of the "military parade" dates back to the Tushan Alliance more than 4,000 years ago.
Origin of the parade:
In "Huainanzi Yuan Daoxun", it is said that in the past, the leader of the Xia tribe, Cang, built a very high wall to defend himself, and everyone wanted to leave him, and other tribes looked at Xia Hu.
Later, Yu became the chief, demolished the city walls, filled in the moat, distributed property to everyone, destroyed weapons, and taught the people morality. So everyone did their part, and other tribes were willing to come and belong. Yu invited the princes to join the alliance at Tushan.
It is said that at the assembly, Yu's men held weapons decorated with feathers and sang and danced to music to express a grand welcome to the southern tribal leaders. The clan leaders who came to meet the alliance all carried valuables such as jade and silk to show their submission to Yu.
In the Tushan Alliance, although Yu did not send a single soldier, his display of force was enough to deter the princes, thus "turning the war into a jade". Yu's behavior is actually the prototype of the "military parade".
A military parade is a ceremony to review the armed forces. It is usually held on major national festivals, welcoming state guests and military expeditions, triumphs, school parades, flag presentations, awards, and large-scale military exercises, to celebrate and pay tribute, to show the achievements of army building, and to spectacular, boost military prestige and boost morale.
