Huawei car BU welcomes personnel adjustment! Yu Chengdong became the chairman, more energy will be focused on the consumer terminal business?

The CEO of Huawei's intelligent vehicle solution BU (hereinafter referred to as Huawei Car BU) has "changed".
A few days ago, it was reported that Huawei Car BU personnel adjusted again, Huawei Optical Product Line President Jin Yuzhi will take over as CEO of Huawei Car BU, and Yu Chengdong, who previously held the position, will be transferred to the chairman of Huawei Car BU.
In this regard, the "Daily Economic News" reporter learned from Huawei that Huawei officially issued a document on the management adjustment of automotive BU, and Jin Yuzhi, president of Huawei's optical product line, was officially appointed as the CEO of Intelligent Vehicle Solution BU on the afternoon of September 21, and Yu Chengdong, who originally held this position, served as the chairman of Intelligent Vehicle Solution BU.
However, the reporter checked Huawei's official website and saw that Yu Chengdong's position information has not been updated, and he still serves as executive director, terminal BG CEO, intelligent vehicle solution BU CEO, and intelligent terminal and intelligent vehicle components IRB director.
Huawei Car BU welcomes the third person in charge
According to public information, Huawei Automotive BU was established in 2019, with Wang Jun as the president at the beginning of its establishment, and the highest person in charge was Xu Zhijun, the rotating chairman of Huawei at that time.
In May 2021, Huawei removed Yu Chengdong as CEO of Huawei CLOUD, Yu Chengdong remains CEO of Consumer BG and CEO of Huawei Automotive BU, and Wang Jun is President of Huawei Automotive BU.
In September 2021, Huawei once again announced that due to management needs, it decided to abolish the position of president of Chebu, and Wang Jun will serve as COO of CheBU and president of the intelligent driving solution product line, while Yu Chengdong will remain CEO of Chebu.
For the reason for Yu Chengdong's position adjustment in the car BU, the reporter learned that with the return of mobile phones such as Huawei Mate 60, Yu Chengdong will focus more on the consumer terminal business. At the same time, Yu Chengdong's appointment as chairman of CheBU is also to help Huawei achieve commercial success in the field of intelligent vehicles. It is reported that Huawei will continue to increase business investment in automotive-related fields in the future.

With this job change, some of the current management structures of Huawei Automotive BU include: Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Device BG and Chairman of Intelligent Vehicle Solution BU, Jin Yuzhi, President of Huawei Optical Product Line and CEO of Intelligent Vehicle Solution BU, and Li Wenguang, President of Huawei Intelligent Driving Solution Product Line and General Manager of Intelligent Driving. In addition, Wang Jun also returned to Huawei Automotive BU as CSO (Chief Strategy Officer).
Face pressure to profitability
Jin Yuzhi, who has just become CEO of Huawei Automotive BU, was originally the vice president of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and the president of Huawei Optical Product Line. Huawei's optical product line ranks first in the world in optical transmission, especially long-distance optical transmission, and Huawei's intelligent vehicle optical business products include AR HUDs and smart lights, which intersect with Huawei automotive BU.
However, from the perspective of the Huawei car BU that Jin Yuzhi will take over, it is not easy to reach the height of its previous achievements. It is understood that Huawei and Cialis have jointly launched a new brand AITO, and have successively launched two models, M5 and M7. In 2022, the cumulative sales of AITO models reached 75,000 units, and the market performance was good.
However, since the beginning of this year, the sales of AITO models have begun to stall, and monthly sales have hovered at 3000~5000 units. According to the latest data, AITO delivered 5,018 new cars in August, an increase of 18% month-on-month, but compared with other new energy brands, there is still room for sales to rise.

In this context, Huawei car BU is also facing profit pressure. It is reported that since the establishment of Huawei Automotive BU, it has invested more than 3 billion US dollars (about 20.6 billion yuan) in R&D, but its revenue in 2022 is only 2.1 billion yuan, and its revenue in the first half of 2023 is only 1 billion yuan.
Yu Chengdong once said at a public event that Huawei has invested a lot in the automotive business, directly investing 7,000 people and indirectly investing more than 10,000 people, spending more than a billion US dollars a year, and is currently Huawei's only loss-making business. At the end of last year, Yu Chengdong also said that the smart car solution BU will be profitable in 2025. Whether this job change will have more impact on the development of the next car BU remains to be seen.
