Lake Bokodi, Hungary: The lake rarely freezes and fishing is possible all year round

author:CM Pedestrian

Bokodi Lake, or Bokodi-hűtőtó in Hungarian, is an artificial lake in Bokode, Hungary. It was created in 1961 by Oroszlány Thermal Power Company as a cooling pool for the plant. Due to the constant circulation of water, the lake rarely freezes despite the severe Hungarian winter. However, in 2015, the power plant was shut down, meaning Lake Bokodi was no longer heated during the winter months, which could negatively impact fishing in the future.

Bokodi-hűtőtó is a place that attracts fishermen and anglers.

Due to the constant circulation of water, the surface of the lake rarely freezes, and fishing is possible all year round. There are many wooden houses and huts on the lake where locals live. It is also used as a summer resort.

Wooden houses are built on platforms and piles. They are connected to the land and to each other by a boardwalk. For this reason, Bokodi-hűtőtó is also known as a village on the water.
