Yoho

➡️ Where: Located in British Columbia, Canada, it takes 1.5 hours to drive here from the town of Banff

➡️ Recommended travel time: 2 days

➡️In 1909, American paleontologist Walcott found some black shale containing fossils in Youhe National Park, and after research, it was found that the marine life in the fossils came from the Cambrian period 505 million years ago. Wolcott then spent the rest of his life mining fossils (until his death in 1927), and found more than 65,000 pieces, mostly arthropods, including trilobites, marla lobes, Galle deformities, etc. It is speculated that these ancient creatures were buried in the silt of the seabed in an avalanche, which was both wet and soft and isolated from the air, and after tens of millions of years, the fossils formed actually preserved the soft tissues of animals. Because the fossil bed is located near Burgess Hill, it is called Burgess Shale.

Youhe National Park was established in 1886 and takes its name from the Indian Cree language. YOOOHOOO! It was the exclamation that the Indians exclaimed when they first saw this place! Although the territory of Youhe is vast, it is not difficult to guess that the first thing Indians see must not be black rocks, but turquoise emerald lakes. It is a moraine lake, and the bottom of the lake is full of sediment and rocks brought by the movement of glaciers, which can be clearly seen from the shore. Since the lake water contains minerals, when illuminated by the sun, it shows an ice-blue emerald luster, which is indeed worth saying "YOHO!" ”

There is a five-kilometre circular trail by the lake, and when the only inn on the edge of the emerald lake appears to the right of your line of sight, look up into the distance and you'll see two peaks, between which are the Burgess Shale discoveries. Moose and elk often come to drink water around the lake. Although the names of the two deer are similar, they are easy to distinguish, mainly looking at the antlers, moose antlers are like palms with slightly folded fingers, and elk antlers are like branches that are very separated. Both species of deer have long horns for males, while Arctic reindeer have long male and female lengths.

On the way from Emerald Lake to the National Park Visitor Center, you'll encounter a natural bridge formed by the rocks slammed by the Kicking Horse River. Originally, the river water jumped over the stone wall to form a waterfall, but the stone wall is not monolithic, there are always some gaps, under the strong water flow day and night, the gap becomes a gap, and then becomes the current hole. The top of the stone wall still appears to be connected, so it is called a natural bridge. This proves once again that the combination of water and time is simply indestructible.

➡️ Special tip: If you want to visit the mining site of Walcott, you should book a professional guide in advance. A fossil exhibit can be seen at the Burgess Shale Foundation next to the visitor center.

➡️ Feel free on the go:

The Emerald Lake in the early morning is very quiet, so quiet that the surface of the lake is like a mirror, and there are no folds; People who are so quiet that they are fishing are like statues, with quiet hearts, quiet eyes, and quiet hands; It should be so quiet that a girl paddles a canoe to the center of the lake and then practices yoga, which should be difficult, not only to maintain the balance of the body, but also to maintain the balance of the canoe. I don't know if it is because her heart is strong and she can ignore the interference of her surroundings, or because she has integrated herself into it and become a part of nature.
