Taiwan independence refers to the idea of a small number of political forces and their supporters in the Taiwan region trying to break away from the Chinese mainland politically, economically and culturally and realize Taiwan's "independence". Taiwan Independence Stems from Colonial Rule and Aggression in China's Modern History Taiwan was occupied and ruled by many countries or regimes, including the Netherlands, Spain, the Ming Dynasty, and the Qing Dynasty. After the end of World War II in 1945, the Allies announced Japan's unconditional surrender, and Taiwan has since returned to Chinese territory. However, shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to historical reasons and external intervention, the People's Republic of China did not have jurisdiction over the Taiwan region, and Taiwan immediately formed a "Republic of China" with a political system and social form very different from that of the mainland.
In the 50s of the 20th century, when Taiwan's rulers, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, engaged in a civil war, the United States provided military assistance to China in the name of anti-communism, while supporting the retreat of the "Republic of China" government to Taiwan, and directly using the name "Republic of China" to represent Taiwan. Such measures further exacerbated the presence of the "Republic of China" in Taiwan and formed a political identity and cultural habits.
The Rise of Taiwan Independence Has Been Accompanied by Increasingly Radical National Sentiments Since the 80s of the 20th century, with the gradual easing of cross-strait relations and the take-off of Taiwan's economy, societies that were originally content with the status quo have begun to dislike the political and economic ties between the mainland and themselves. Some extremist forces have begun to flaunt the banner of "democracy and freedom" and gradually put forward the "consciousness of Taiwan's subjectivity" in their political propaganda and campaigns, seriously endangering the peace and development of cross-strait relations.
It is worth noting that the words and deeds of some Taiwan independence elements are extremely radical, and the separatist ideas advocated by them have even been opposed and condemned by other Taiwan people. They advocate completely cutting off all ties between the mainland and Taiwan, including personnel exchanges, trade in goods, and cultural exchanges, such as "de-Sinicization," "de-nationalization," and "de-Sinicization." These slogans attracted some supporters, but they were also opposed and protested by many groups, citizens and ordinary people.
In short, from the perspective of history and reality, the idea of Taiwan independence is extremely controversial. Taiwan is one of China's inalienable territories, and the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same Chinese nation. Any attempt to disrupt cross-strait relations, undermine national interests, and harm the well-being of Taiwan compatriots is doomed to failure and condemnation.
