Solomon Islands – At the request of Solomon Islands authorities, the New Zealand Defence Force will be stationed in Solomon Islands until at least 31 December this year. In response to anti-government protests in the Solomon Islands in 2021, New Zealand deployed a defence force to the Pacific island nation at the end of 2021.
At the same time, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Australia also sent troops to the Solomon Islands. After China signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, New Zealand and Australia, along with other allies, expressed concern about the possibility of militarization of the Pacific.
New Zealand has repeatedly stressed that the security challenges in the Pacific should be addressed by the countries in the region themselves, and the success of this response has been highlighted by the Solomon Islands peacekeeping arrangements.
