This film will no longer focus on a single battle and a single event, but will be more panoramic and more faceted to show the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea, which is why the film is called a "war epic". And Chen Kaige also said that in the "epic" movie, there will be big heroes.
In addition, "Volunteers" has also made considerable efforts to restore and respect history. For example, important scenes in the movie, such as the bridge across the Yalu River, were shot one-to-one, and a total of seven aircraft props were used. At the same time, director Chen Kaige also worked with art director Lu Wei to meticulously archaeology historical scenes such as the United Nations venue and the Truman press conference. In the scene of the Battle of Pine Bone Peak, the crew also carefully added the image of pine trees after research, and integrated humanistic emotions into the magnificent historical river.
