author:China Youth Network

The friendship between countries lies in the affinity of the people, and the affinity of the people lies in the common heart. The ancient Silk Road opened a window for friendly exchanges among countries and accumulated the Silk Road spirit with peaceful cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit as the core. Now, from the exchange of international students to co-production of films, from Chinese language teaching to technical education, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and Central Asian countries have been deepened, making the friendship that lasted for thousands of years more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Starting today, "International Times" will launch a series of reports on "Silk Road Border Central Asia", telling the story of people-to-people bonds, exchanges and mutual learning between the people of China and Central Asia. First go and meet a young man from Kazakhstan, Timur.

Timur, a student in Kazakhstan: My name is Timur and I am from Almaty, Kazakhstan. When I first came to China in 2007, in fact, the population of Beijing is more than our whole country, it is full of people, I was only 5 years old at that time, my family and I often went to climb mountains, go to the Great Wall, to see all kinds of places of interest. At that time, I was actually very energetic and very happy.

After living in Beijing, China for four years, Timur traveled with his family to other countries before returning to Kazakhstan.

Timur, a student studying in Kazakhstan: In 2013, when Chinese President Xi Jinping came to our Astana country, he proposed the "Silk Road Economic Belt" initiative. Because it is in my country, in the city where I live, such an important initiative makes me feel very proud.

With the proposal of the "Belt and Road" initiative, more and more young people in Central Asian countries are optimistic about the opportunity of cooperation and development with China, and regard studying in China as their "Chinese dream". Timur also came to China again in 2019.

Timur, a student in Kazakhstan: As soon as I arrived in China and Beijing, I felt such a big change, so since 2020 (I) decided to stay in China to study and go to school. In the past two years, I have found that more and more international students from Kazakhstan have come to study in China, which shows that the relationship between China and Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries is getting closer and closer. I have a very good relationship with my Chinese classmates and other foreign students, and every time I encounter difficulties, everyone is very willing to help, which makes me feel very happy.

Timur has traveled to many Chinese cities, including Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Sanya, and he uploads small videos to his social media pages.

Timur, a student studying in Kazakhstan: When I went to Xi'an, I went with my parents for the first time, and I went to many places of interest. My parents told me that Xi'an was the capital of many dynasties in China, and there was a very famous diplomat and traveler named Zhang Qian in the Han Dynasty of China, and it was from here that Zhang Qian established friendly relations with Central Asia at that time and opened up the ancient Silk Road. Therefore, I think it is very meaningful that the China-Central Asia Summit is selected in Xi'an, and it is held on the tenth anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative, just as history and the future are linked, and the history of friendly exchanges between China and China in Central Asia will continue to extend. [I] recorded a lot of videos so that other Kazakh friends could see what China is like now.

Seeing the rapid changes in China, Timur also wanted to bring some changes back to his hometown.

Timur, a student studying in Kazakhstan: Every time we call, make a video (to friends in Kazakhstan), I tell them that there are so many changes in China, such as takeaway, express delivery, and delivery is very fast. China's modern technology makes me think that we can bring China's experience back to Kazakhstan and learn from each other. In the future, I still want to be a diplomat, no matter where I am, in Kazakhstan or China, [I hope to promote] the friendship between Kazakhstan and China, and make my own contribution.
