From the 50s to the 90s, many provinces experimented with American pecans. In 1994, the "introduction of new varieties and cultivation management technology of American pecans" hosted by Central South Forestry College was listed as the first batch of "948" program introduction projects by the state.
"948" Program is the abbreviation of the "Project Plan for Introducing Advanced Foreign Agricultural Science and Technology" decided by the State Council in August 1994. "948" plan to use the five years from 1996~2000 to introduce 1000 international advanced agricultural science and technology to promote the development of high-yield, high-quality and high-efficiency agriculture. Promote a new level of food production capacity and lay the foundation for the development of the continent's agricultural and rural economy in the next century. 948, the plan is based on the principle of "mainly increasing grain production, mainly applying advanced technology, and focusing on short-term results", introducing excellent varieties, advanced technologies and key equipment that are not available in China, and digesting, absorbing, innovating, demonstrating and promoting as soon as possible. The plan is led by the Ministry of Agriculture and implemented in the agriculture, forestry and water conservancy industries, with the participation of relevant ministries and commissions of the state.
Listed as the first batch of "948" plan by the state "American pecan new varieties and cultivation management technology introduction" project, the seeds and ears of the main cultivars have been introduced from the southeast, west and north of the United States, a total of 30 varieties have been introduced, 27 have been preserved, and 36 excellent clones have been screened, which have been grafted in Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Yunnan and other cooperation points.
