Archaeologists recently discovered dozens of human remains in a stone tomb that is about 7,000 years old in Oman.

Located near Nafon in Oman's central Vosta province on the Arabian Peninsula, this stone tomb is about 7,000 years old and is one of the oldest man-made structures ever found in Oman. There are dozens of remains in the tomb, which were buried in the tomb more than 7,000 years ago.
The cemetery is close to the coast and surrounded by stony deserts. The archaeologists said: "No tombs from the Bronze Age or older have ever been found in this area. "This one is completely unique."

The latest excavations are part of a third-year archaeological survey led in Oman by the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The burial location was discovered in satellite photographs dating back about 10 years, and archaeologists believe it dates back to between 5000 BC and 4600 BC.

The walls of the tomb were made of rows of thin stone slabs, known as "ashes", which contained two circular burial chambers divided into several separate compartments. The entire tomb is covered in stucco, but part of it has collapsed, possibly due to the annual monsoon rains.
Archaeologists carefully clean the tomb
More than 20 skeletons and body bones were found in the tomb, and judging from the degree of damage to the bones, the deceased had decomposed before being stored in the tomb; Their skulls were placed near the outer walls, with long bones pointing towards the center of the tomb.
Similar remains have been found in a smaller tomb next to the main tomb, which may have been built a little later, with evidence that the deceased were buried at different times.
Archaeologists clean the remains of the tomb
The next stage will be to conduct anthropological and biochemical assessments of the remains, such as isotope analysis techniques to look at the different neutrons in the nuclei of various key elements, in order to learn more about the eating habits and flow patterns of the people buried in the tombs.
The team is also continuing its expeditions in the area, hoping to find ancient settlements nearby for more in-depth research.
