North America's most spectacular view: Glacier National Park across the U.S.-Canada border

One of North America's most stunning mountain views, straddling the U.S.-Canada border. Known as the "crown of the continent", the two parks have become the world's first international peace parks since 1932, Glacier National Park in Montana and Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada, which together form a continuous alpine wonder.

Glacier National Park, located in northwestern Montana, is known for its large number of glaciers and the rugged terrain formed by glaciation. Although there are still more than a dozen glaciers in the park, what is even more amazing is the huge U-shaped valley and the huge granite peaks.

Landmarks along the Sunshine Trail include: cliff snow, ancient hemlock cedar forests, nasty hairpin bends called "rings," roadside weeping walls, and an observation deck overlooking the giant Jackson Glacier. The Continental Watershed divides the road in half, and the 6,646-foot-high Logan Pass houses a visitor center and bookstore that provides visitors with shelter from the cold highland weather.

Goats, bighorn sheep and marmots perch the rocky slopes surrounding the Logan Pass, which is also a hub for several hiking trails, including the family-friendly Animal Super Heroes Trail and a 1.5-mile nature trail to Hidden Lake. The trail at the western end of Lake St. Mary's leads to three magnificent waterfalls and is also a great place to hike.

Apgar Village is located at the western end of the road and is close to lakeside hotels, restaurants, shops and visitor centers. In the summer, scenic boats sail on Lake Macdonald; Canoes, kayaks, rowboats and treadmill boats are also available for hire. Camas Road leads north of the village to the lakefront of Rocky Point and a bridge over the North Fork Flathead River, a great place to photograph the front hills. A rough gravel road leads to the lesser-known North Fork Area in the park, which is home to secluded campgrounds next to Kintla Lake and Bowman Lake.

Highway 2 wraps around the southern end of Glacier National Park, between the park and two national forests (Flathead and Lewis Clark). About halfway there's the Goat Lick Overlook, where you can look out over the viaduct bridge in the valley and possibly see Rocky Mountain goats clinging to the cliffs.

Travel with bears: The eastern side of Glacier National Park borders the Blackfeet Nation, and reserved towns such as East Glacier serve park visitors. On the outskirts of the East Glacier, the park has a spectacular and lesser-known area: Two Medicine, where Blackfoot people performed sacred rites of passage. The trail runs between three lakes and follows the stream to the Running Eagle Falls, which gushes out from the mouth of the boulder cave.

St. Mary's is located at the eastern end of the Walk through the Sun. In addition to hotels, cabins, and several restaurants, the town has a national park visitor center. Outside the park entrance, a wide meadow, Two Dog Flats, is a great place to look for bears or elk. Take a 90-minute cruise on Lake St. Mary, departing from the pontoon at the Sunrise Campground.

Another slender valley, many glaciers, offers some of the park's most popular hiking trails, including a 5.5-mile walk to the bottom of the Grinnell Glacier, a 6.6-mile strenuous climb to the Swiftcurrent Pass, and a ride to Thunderbird Falls Falls) is a relatively easy 2.5-mile route. A quarter-mile hike is included between scenic cruises at Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine. Kayaks, canoes and rowing boats are available for hire.

There are two private companies offering motorized tours within the park. The legendary Red Bus Tours use vintage oak-framed vehicles from the 1930s, while Sun Tours, owned and operated by Blackfoot, interprets the park from an authentic Native American perspective.

Visitors should always note that Glacier National Park is the territory of bears, including black and grizzly bears. Carry bear spray even for short walks. As one Glacier National Park ranger explained, "Grizzly bears don't care if you walk 10 yards or 10 miles. ”

In winter, most of the national park is closed. But nearby Whitefish, Montana, is a hub for cold-weather sports and boasts a ski and snowboard resort that was named one of the top ten in the United States by Ski Magazine. In addition, various other winter events are held here.
