The platypus, also known as the bizarre platypus or platypus water beast, is a special mammal that lives in Australia.
The platypus is small, about 40-60 cm long and generally weighs between 0.8-2.4 kg. Their beak shape is unique, about 5-7 cm long, with many sensitive sensors that can sense the electric field in the water in order to facilitate the search for prey. The platypus has webbed hindlimbs with relatively short forelimbs and sharp claws that allow for burrowing in the dirt.
The platypus inhabits rivers and lakes in eastern and southern Australia and feeds primarily on crustaceans and aquatic insects. They are semi-aquatic animals with excellent swimming and diving abilities in the water, being able to breathe underwater with their noses closed.
Platypus are considered to be one of the most exotic species of mammals, and early explorers had suspected them of being fake, and even thought they were a combination of different species. The platypus is also ecologically threatened and is currently listed as endangered and protected.
