Its flowers are clumpy after clump, the amount of flowers is large, and it can bloom repeatedly, and the ornamental value is extremely high. Although geranium is relatively simple to maintain, it still takes some effort to cultivate it into a state of bursting flowers. In addition to "raising" geraniums in spring, in addition to daily maintenance such as fertilization and watering, they must also learn to "cut" and know how to prune their dense branches. How to "cut"
Primering geraniums in spring is mainly divided into two stages: topping during the growing period and pruning after flowering. Proper pruning is very important for geraniums.
Topping during the growing period
Florists who have raised geraniums know that geraniums have a characteristic of growth, if there is no human intervention, its branches can grow very long, and later because they are too long directly hanging on the edge of the pot, the plant type is chaotic. In order to make the geranium plant short and full, we need to top the main branch after it has grown to a certain length.

When the main shoots of geranium grow to 6~7 leaves, use your hands or scissors to pinch off the shoots at the top of the branches. After this topping, the growth of the main branches is inhibited, the side shoots on the main branches will get more nutrients, more side branches can grow, geraniums will be stronger and bloom more.
Prune after flowers
Geraniums have large flowers and umbel-shaped inflorescences. After the flowers of the geranium have failed, be sure to prune the residual flowers in time. Residual flowers that remain in the branches will produce seeds and continue to consume nutrients, causing subsequent growth stagnation and greatly reducing the amount of flowers. It is especially important to prune the residual flowers for geraniums after the flowers.
When pruning residual flowers, in addition to pruning the residual flowers, it is also necessary to prune the branches under the residual flowers and the following 1 pair of leaves, so that pruning can have a similar effect to topping and help the side buds grow.
Under normal circumstances, geraniums will bloom 2~3 waves in spring. After the last wave of flowers, as the weather gradually rises above 30 degrees, the geranium will go dormant and stop growing and flowering. When we find that the temperature is above 30 degrees, remember to observe the overall plant type while pruning the residual flowers. Prune the diseased branches, cross branches, messy branches and yellow leaves at the bottom to keep the branches breathable enough to prepare geraniums for summer.
Water spraying is prohibited
Many flower friends usually like to spray flowers and plants with clean water to keep the branches and leaves moist, which is very good for growth. However, this method is not suitable for geraniums, especially after pruning, be sure not to spray water. There are naturally many villi on the branches and leaves of geranium, and after spraying water, water droplets will accumulate on the fluff and it is difficult to evaporate quickly, which is easy to cause leaf rot. After pruning the branches, there will be many wounds, and it is very easy to cause wound infection after being wet, causing the branches to wither and die. Therefore, try not to spray water on geraniums, especially after pruning, it is forbidden to spray water.
