This paper examines the impact of climate variability on agricultural productivity and livelihoods, and proposes possible mitigation strategies.

Climate variability and agricultural productivity

Climate variability is a long-term change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over a specific period of time, from a few years to decades. Climate variability includes changes in temperature, precipitation, and other weather-related phenomena such as floods, droughts, and storms. These changes in climate patterns have had a profound impact on agricultural productivity, leading to crop failure, reduced yields and food insecurity.

One of the main impacts of climate variability on agriculture is drought. Drought affects plant growth and development, leading to lower yields and crop failure. IV. Conclusion

Climate variability is a major challenge for agriculture, affecting productivity and livelihoods. The impact of climate variability on agriculture can be mitigated through the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices, improved water management, the implementation of weather forecasting and early warning systems, and the provision of climate information and technologies.
