Iranian state television on Friday aired footage of the raid on the tanker, where masked Iranian naval commandos conducted a helicopter raid in the Gulf of Oman to seize a U.S. tanker.

According to the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, an unidentified vessel collided with an Iranian vessel while leaving the Persian Gulf into the Sea of Oman, causing injuries to two missing persons and several other crew members, in violation of international regulations on assisting the vessel, and causing injuries to the vessel immediately upon the Centre's request. The Maritime Surveillance and Rescue (MRCC) of the Islamic Republic of Iran intercepted, identified and seized an unidentified vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

During this operation, the Navy's Binder destroyer seized the offending vessel flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and diverted it to the waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The vessel's manager, a Turkish company called Advantage Tankers, issued a statement acknowledging that Advantage Sweet was "escorted to port by the Iranian Navy in connection with an international dispute." The 24 crew members on board were all Indians.
