The Last of Us finally landed on PC earlier this week after a 25-day delay to ensure it was in "the best condition." Unfortunately, despite the delay, PC buyers on Steam soon began reporting a slew of technical issues — including inconsistent frame rates, regular crashes, stuttering, long load times, and poor optimizations — and soon garnered a mostly negative review on Valve's storefront.

Naughty Dog has since acknowledged the player's complaint, saying that "having heard your concerns, our team is actively investigating multiple issues you have reported." ”

Soon after, the studio released its first hotfix, primarily designed to address "stability and performance... and other minor improvements", although messages from early players indicate little change after the patch. Now it is followed by a second update for memory, performance, and "more" improvements.

Specifically, the patch notes highlight the following changes:

  • Reduce PSO cache size to reduce memory requirements and minimize memory overflow crashes
  • Added additional diagnostics for developer tracking purposes
  • Increase animation stream memory to improve the performance of games and movies
  • Fixed an issue that crashed on first boot

"The team is closely monitoring player reports to support future improvements and patches," Naughty Dog reiterated in the patch notes, noting that players can see issues currently being tracked or investigated on their website.
