#The farthest places I've ever been#On a cruise, I saw from a distance the arrival of the Falkland Islands (known in Argentina as the Malvinas) closest to Antarctica. The first thing that catches your eye is the city of Staney, the capital of the Falkland Islands (Figure 1). In 1982, Britain and Argentina fought a battle for ownership of the Falkland Islands. The British Expeditionary Task Force eventually defeated the Afghan forces that had occupied the Falklands. Thatcher became famous in World War I, and the title "Iron Lady" was born. The city of Stani today is a peaceful scene. It's small, colorful, and looks beautiful to the eye. The entire Falkland Islands has a permanent population of just over 2,800 people, plus a British garrison of about 400 people, which is more than 3,000. It can be said that the number of people is very small, but the 1900 people at the time of the Battle of Beema Island still increased a lot. There are kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools on the island, and you have to go to London for university. There are also hospitals that can do major surgery, with rotating doctors from the UK. The town is clean and well kept. The roads on the archipelago are basically asphalted, and compared with the beautiful Ushuaia National Park in Argentina on Tierra del Fuego, which is still a dirt road, the British side has a significantly higher level of governance. The city of Stanley has the monument to the victory in the Battle of the Falklands. The stele bears the names of more than 800 fallen soldiers, alongside a bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher (Figures 9, 10).
