At the same time, there is also news on the island that "Paraguay", also located in the Americas, may soon establish diplomatic relations with the mainland, and this news has become more and more popular on the island. Once this news becomes a reality, all the remaining so-called "diplomatic relations" on Taiwan Island will also become precarious. To a large extent, this also proves that even some very small countries will fully recognize the fact that Taiwan Island belongs to China's inalienable sovereignty, and the day when Taiwan Island will officially return to the embrace of the motherland is not far away.

At present, the 13 so-called "diplomatic relations" remaining on Taiwan Island are Paraguay, the Marshall Islands, Palau, Nauru, Tuvalu, Haiti, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Guatemala, Eswatini and the Vatican. A large proportion of these countries are small countries that we have never heard of and have no international presence. For example, the "Vatican", the total permanent population of the country is 618 people, the country area is 0.44 square kilometers, that is, it is not as big as our village, more is just a symbolic meaning. The Taiwan side is desperately trying to preserve the so-called "diplomatic relations" relations with these countries, but in fact it does not have much practical significance.
Of course, the "Paraguay" mentioned at the beginning of the article that it is preparing to break off "official relations" with Taiwan and establish diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland is indeed the largest of the total 13 so-called "diplomatic relations" countries left on Taiwan Island, and compared with other small countries, "Paraguay" can be regarded as the only big country. In terms of population, Paraguay currently has a total population of about 7.45 million, a land area of about 400,000 square kilometers, and a total GDP of around US$38.3 billion in 2021.
However, since the establishment of so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan in 1957, Paraguay has not had any diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland, and the two sides have not had much interaction at the official level.
If it comes to why Paraguay is still reluctant to establish diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland? On the contrary, it has maintained so-called "official" contacts with Taiwan for a long time, and the reason for this is also very simple.
China establishes diplomatic relations with Honduras
This is nothing more than an economic problem. Judging from the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras in the past few days, China has always been on the principle of "one China" and adhering to the spirit of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and common development with countries that have established diplomatic relations, and will actively promote mutually beneficial cooperation with China in various fields to help the economic and social development of Honduras and bring benefits to the local people.
Taiwan Island practices "money diplomacy", that is, as long as you can "establish diplomatic relations" with me, then I will directly give you a large sum of dollars. You just need to take this money and maintain "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan Island for a long time, and you don't have to think so much about anything else.
For example, in 2016, Taiwan Island provided $75 million to Paraguay, of which $20 million was used to help Paraguay build the Capitol Building. By 2019, Taiwan had reached a so-called cooperation with Paraguay, directly allocating US$150 million to Paraguay, mainly to upgrade Paraguay's education and infrastructure. In addition, there is a lot of "economic assistance" from Taiwan to Paraguay.
In addition, some time ago, the "Micronesia Federated States of," a small Pacific country that wanted to cut ties with Chinese mainland and establish "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan. As early as February this year, this small Pacific country had certain exchanges with the Taiwan island side and also exchanged views with the Taiwan side about the possibility of trying to establish "diplomatic relations." But at that time, the attitude of the "Micronesian Federated States of" was also very simple, and it was not difficult to establish "diplomatic relations", but the premise was that Taiwan Island must first send 50 million US dollars, that is, NT$1.45 billion. As long as this money is in place, then the Federated States of Micronesia can immediately establish "official" ties with Taiwan, and will not care about the opposition of Chinese mainland.
To put it simply, by establishing diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland, any country can get mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit of "economic cooperation" to seek common development, but you can only get these, Chinese mainland will never give money directly. However, in maintaining "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan island, if nothing else, it is entirely possible to receive a large amount of "economic aid" from the island every year, even if you do nothing.
You know, "economic cooperation" and direct "economic assistance" are too different from each other to be a concept at all. And like some small countries with smaller economies, it is useless if you talk to them about economic cooperation and common development. All they see is how much money you can give them every year, that is, to get money without doing anything, which is what these small countries want most.
Therefore, to sum up, from the perspective of the benefits after the establishment of diplomatic relations, what Chinese mainland can give is not what those small countries want, and what those small countries want, Chinese mainland will definitely not give. What we practice is equality, mutual benefit and common development, but what those countries want is to get something for nothing, and directly want you to spend money for nothing.
Therefore, this is the main reason why a total of 12 countries, including Paraguay, still have "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan and refuse to establish diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland. Because in our eyes, there is no way out for money diplomacy, and we also advise Taiwan Island to carry out the current money diplomacy and the road of "seeking independence" that it is trying to carry out, and the final result can only be a dead end.
