IT House News on March 25, AMD officially introduced its next-generation FidelityFX Super Resolution Suite FSR 3 at the Game Developers Conference GDC 2023. FSR 3 adds game interpolation and doubles performance.
NVIDIA DLSS 3 was the first to introduce game interpolation technology, and AMD brought similar features in FSR 3. AMD says the technology generates interpolated frames through Motion Vectors and AMD Fluid Motion.
In terms of performance, AMD FSR 3 is 1x better than FSR 2 at 4K resolution. AMD showed a demo running Unreal Engine 5 with frame rates jumping from 60 FPS (FSR 2) to 112 FPS (FSR 3).
In addition, reducing latency will also be a key focus area for AMD FSR 3. AMD says games currently integrated with FSR 2 will be very easy to migrate to FSR 3. FSR 3 will also be open sourced under the MIT license.
AMD has not announced the official release of FSR 3, but it is expected to be available in the first half of 2023. According to the previous version strategy, FSR 3 interpolation is also expected to be suitable for non-AMD graphics cards, and IT family friends who hold old NVIDIA graphics cards can look forward to it.
Finally, AMD announced the FidelityFX SDK for game developers, which will be available in Q2 2023. The SDK comes with native backends for Vulkan and DirectX12, as well as custom backends for AMD's Cauldron.
AMD also announced three new FidelityFX effects: FidelityFX Depth of Field, FidelityFX Lens, and FidelityFX Blur.
