Located at the southernmost tip of the Quiberon Peninsula, Quiberon is a small town in the department of Morbignan in the Brittany region of western France, at the western end of the Gulf of Morbion. It is home to the most famous sanatorium in France, and the French love to recuperate. Known as the "Little Mediterranean" in July and August, Quiberon attracts countless tourists every year to spend their holidays in July and August. Spend a few days here and you're sure to get a complete rest and relaxation.

Quiberon is a well-established tourist ferry that connects Ile de Belle en mer with other surrounding islands. You can also take a ferry to other islands. The Quiberon peninsula is the best beach bathing in Brittany. Its reputation among French tourists and foreign tourists is by no means empty.

Quiberon is not only a quaint seaside resort, it is also known for its production of canned sardines. It is also famous for being the site of the Battle of Quiberon Bay during World War II, where the columns of the Cross of Lorraine commemorate the lives of the French resistance fighters who died there. The history of the town can be found in the local museum Maison du Patrimoine. Other attractions in town include the Musée de la Mer and the beautiful church Église Notre Dame de Locmaria.

Stroll along the boardwalk and enjoy a crepe or some saltwater toffee, visiting different boutiques and gift shops. From the port, you can take a ferry to Belle-Île-en-Mer, the largest island in Brittany, a charming place that must be visited. Belle-Île is perfect for hiking, with 95 km of coastal trails on the island to explore incredible scenery and sea views.

Quiberon is a small city located on top of a slender 15 km long peninsula called Presqu'île de Quiberon, literally translated as "almost" island), flanked to the west by the windswept, rocky and very picturesque Côte Sauvage ("Wilderness Coast"). The Quiberon itself is fanned around the beach and harbour, from where boats depart several times a day to the very popular Belle-île, where fishing boats pour in to unload their catch.

What to do in Quiberon

Go to the beach

Quiberon has a wide sandy beach called Grande Plage, which is the perfect place to sunbathe and swim during the warm summer months. Also straddling the beach is a boardwalk lined with cheesy boutiques, tulle and crepe stalls, candy shops selling saltwater toffees, and more. In summer, the boardwalk and beach are often packed with people shopping and soaking up the sun.

On the western side of the Quiberon Peninsula is the rocky and windy Côte Sauvage, which, despite being only about 5 minutes from town, looks and feels like a remote and unspoiled part of the coast. Take some time to watch the waves lap against spectacular rocky cliffs and coves and admire the rugged beauty of the Breton coast.

Rent a bike

Quiberon is a town small enough that you can easily explore the whole city by bike. Especially with the wonderful boardwalk and great fish market to explore, cycling is not only a great way to get around, but it's also fun to feel the wind blowing through your hair while cruising like a local.

Head to Belle-île

Belle-île, Brittany's largest island, is a very popular place, but its vast area gives you plenty of room to explore, even during the busy summer months.

While a day trip from Quiberon is easy, those interested in spending the night in Bell Island can also camp on the island or look for a hotel. Whether you stay overnight or not, it's definitely worth renting a scooter to get around the island and enjoy its magnificent natural landscapes.

Go to the market

On Wednesdays (summer) and Saturday mornings, visitors to Quiberon will find a market in the centre of town. Often stocked with local produce and fresh fish, the market is not only a great place to shop for a picnic, but also to munch on some freshly shelled oysters.
