Norwegian architecture firm Helen & Hard built a pair of shingle-covered treehouses on a hillside overlooking the Hadanger Fjord.

A pedestrian bridge leads to the treehouse

The buildings hang about 6 meters above the forest floor and are attached to the trunks of two living pine trees with steel collars. This creates the feeling of living between the branches.

The architecture studio explains: "As the client wanted to create a unique spatial experience that connected the ordinary and extraordinary sensations of climbing and exploring trees, we aimed to create a space that truly embodies what it means to live in nature. ”。

Take a 20-minute walk along a steep winding path from the town to the site. A short wooden bridge runs from the hillside to the entrance of the hut.

The interior of each cottage covers an area of only 15 square metres and includes a sleeping area, bathroom, kitchen and a living space overlooking the fjord.

The interior space is arranged around the trunk, which forms the main structural core. A series of radially glued timber ribs form a shell containing large windows.

The buildings are wrapped in a protective layer made of untreated shingles that will gradually weather, taking on tones and lusters that match the surrounding forest.

The interior walls, ceilings, floors and supporting furniture are all made of wood to borrow from traditional Norwegian timber architecture.

The extensive use of wood also enhances the feeling of being surrounded by nature.
