✔ Is such a wabi-sabi house acceptable to you?
Today share a design for a country house in the town of Tacambaro, Mexico.
● Located in the magical town of Tacambaro, near the Lake District of Patzcuaro, the project was born out of the idea of a local client to create two small holiday homes in an existing country house. Casa Corsal pays homage to the artisan and architectural heritage of the region by integrating local resources and materials, combined with custom-designed objects and furniture.
To enter the villa, visitors have to go around narrow streets and some vernacular buildings. The project sits on a trapezoidal site and presents itself to the public through a large adobe wall covered with clay grass ash. This huge wall guarantees privacy for users, while at the top of the façade, a brick lattice allows for a subtle dialogue between the urban environment and the property.
The main entrance consists of a narrow door and corridor that leads to a courtyard where other projects are distributed. In this way, the new reception space is respectfully integrated into the existing building and environment. The premise of the design is based on respect for most of the natural elements such as trees, rocks and climate, which are taken into account in the project. On this basis, the two houses responded to the topography of the site and the location of the existing trees, taking advantage of the sloping terrain, leveling it with platforms and terraces, avoiding unnecessary excavations.
Visitors are thrown into the complex, walking and watching over the existing lush green spaces and discovering the rest of the project. Along with these complementary spaces, a red brick pavilion stands out with handcrafted vaults and rose windows. The two cabins have a triangular floor plan, and their inverted position creates an organic geometric shape and sense of movement on the facades. The 260 sqm house consists of two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, a dining area, and a living room for each one. Social areas serve as the main axis of the house, while on both sides of the house, private areas open to the outside.
The main structure of the dwelling consists of adobe bricks, made from locally excavated soil, i.e. rendered with a mixture of clay, lime and natural pigments. This earthy and ochre hue complements the use of wood and the use of clay flooring, a unique design made from tile fragments.
One of the most striking features is the interior design, which features neutral colors with a vernacular style. In this way, architecture and interior design complement each other, with the materiality of space and reduced surfaces evoking silence and introspection; The contrast with the ochre-colored tones and the height management of the sloping roof gives warmth and visual amplitude to the interior, creating a different atmosphere over time.
