Although the data of the main version is not on the same track as us, it can also be shown to you, just for reference: the Type 89 self-propelled anti-tank gun is one of the top TDs in the main version, its complete body 120 smoothbore gun has a single damage of 550 points, 7 seconds to load a shell, a 100-meter accuracy of 0.22, and a reduction time of 1.9 seconds. The penetration depth of the two armor-piercing projectiles is 590/643 mm (conservative, too conservative, deliberately cut the penetration depth for "balance"), and even high-explosive shells have a penetration depth of 280 mm. The Type 89 self-propelled anti-tank gun is one of the crystallization of the "two-gun development project", which refers to the second-generation anti-tank gun and self-propelled anti-tank gun, which were both projects born in the urgent situation of the 70s. Due to financial problems, the development of self-propelled anti-tank guns was not fast, while the 120mm smoothbore tank gun (new 120 slip) and supporting ammunition achieved phased results. However, the third generation of tanks had been determined to use the 125 gun, and the powerful new 120 slip could not be destroyed just like that, so in 1983 it was changed to anti-tank use. The gun barrel was lengthened, and the turret was redesigned and placed on the 60-1 (321) tracked medium universal chassis.

In 1985, the prototype performed well at the shooting range, so in 1986 it was also listed as a key project of the Seventh Five-Year Plan. In 1988-1989, after small batch production, the equipment was trialled by the troops, and in 1990, the formal design was finalized and entered mass production. The most outstanding thing about the Type 89 self-propelled anti-tank gun is its powerful armor-piercing power, which is designed to overturn Soviet main battle tanks at a distance of 2,000 meters. Therefore, the tank barrel is long, there are many projectiles, and the muzzle velocity of APFSDS can reach an astonishing 1660 m/s, and it can penetrate 681 target plates (20mm panel, 80mm back plate, middle 36mm FRP and 68mm chrome corundum two layers of mixed sandwich plate) placed at a distance of 2000 meters at 68°. It is said that it is a simulation of the T-72 first armor, but in fact, the defense is higher).
The old guys are retired
However, not long after the Type 89 entered service, the northern threat was lifted. And with the mass production of the Type 96 and later the Type 99, the power of the 125 smoothbore gun they use has gradually surpassed the 120 slip of the Type 89, and compared with the main battle tank, the Type 89 hull is large and has almost no defense, plus the sight electrical equipment is old, and the mobility is low, which is behind the times. As a result, the Type 89 was discontinued after about 230 units were produced and was fully retired from service in 2015. It is now replaced by the more maneuverable and better serviced "Big Eight-wheeled" Type 11 wheeled assault vehicle. Although the 105 gun is not as powerful as the 120 gun, it is more flexible and convenient for ambushes and assaults.
