In 1896, the Queen of the Netherlands received Li Hongzhang, a minister of the Qing Dynasty of China, at this hotel. Three days after Li Hongzhang's visit to the Netherlands, he left for Belgium.

126 years later, the Sri Lankans are gone, and the hotel is still there. The hotel is still in use today.
