The General Administration of Customs issued an announcement last year officially allowing the import of fresh Iranian citrus that meets the requirements. This is the first time that Iran, as a major fruit grower in the Middle East, has been granted access by the General Administration of Customs on the mainland. At 23:00 on March 17, flight W5077 from Iran landed at Pudong Airport, carrying 1,780 kilograms of citrus on board, the main variety of navel orange, becoming the first batch of fruits exported to China from Iran in the desert country.
In order to reduce the cargo loss rate of fresh citrus, Pudong Airport Customs has always provided a package of facilitation measures to understand the plans and arrangements for the import of citrus in advance and tailor supervision plans. At 14 o'clock on March 18, the batch of citrus completed all customs clearance procedures, left Pudong Airport, and went to the Shanghai consumer market as soon as possible.
As a traditional agricultural and pastoral country, Iran is the world's largest producer of 14 kinds of agricultural products, accounting for about 12% of its GDP. Iran produces about 5.5 million tons of citrus per year, ranking among the top 10 in the world. It is also reported that in February this year, Iranian apples were also approved by the General Administration of Customs of the mainland, becoming the second Iranian fruit allowed to be exported to China after citrus. With the official opening of the China-Iran fruit air corridor, Sino-Iranian agricultural products will become a new expansion point for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, and Iranian citrus and apples are also expected to become the new favorite of Shanghai's fruit consumption market after Chilean cherries, New Zealand kiwifruit and Mexican avocados.
