Seriously, when I came to New Caledonia, I had never heard of the name or had no idea what it was.
For me, "New Caledonia" is like a completely strange existence, without any pre-impressions, everything is full of unknown freshness.
In fact, "New Caledonia" is located in the middle of the South Pacific Islands, and I came here a few years ago when I cruised around the South Pacific for 46 days.
Our cruise ship had already visited several countries and regions in the South Pacific, but when we first arrived in "New Caledonia", the style seemed to be a little "different".
Although there are many locals in "New Caledonia" who look typical of the South Pacific, the urban style here is significantly more European, which piqued my curiosity.
Later, I learned that "New Caledonia" turned out to be an overseas possession of France, so it's no wonder that it's full of French style everywhere.
The place where our cruise ships call here is called "Noumea", which is the capital and main port of "New Caledonia", and it is also a very beautiful small city.
"Noumea" is surrounded by mountains on three sides, one facing the sea, and the natural conditions are superior, because there are reefs outside the port as a barrier, so the water in the port is deep, the wind and waves are calm, and it is said to be one of the best ports in the southwest Pacific.
"Noumea" has a small population and is not large, it looks like a small county in our country, the pace of life is very slow, and the atmosphere of the whole city feels very leisurely.
Perhaps as an overseas territory of France, the style of "New Caledonia" is also influenced by French culture, when I walk on the streets of "Noumea", it is really a bit like coming to France, I don't know if it is a psychological effect?
Our cruise doesn't stay in "Noumea" for long, only one day, so I had to rush around here to experience the local life.
Halfway through, I also found a restaurant to grab a bite to eat because it's a noodle shop, and I wanted to try what the Asian food tasted like, so I came in.
Unexpectedly, the price level of "Noumea" is quite high, and compared to other countries and regions in the South Pacific, consumption here is really expensive.
Later, I learned that the high prices in "New Caledonia" are not without reason, because it is said to be a "rich resort" for many wealthy French people.
Because "New Caledonia" is located in the middle of the South Pacific, far from the mainland, like a "paradise", many rich French people will choose to come here for vacations or even sojourn.
According to local regulations, people in mainland France who come to "New Caledonia" for vacation or sojourn have no right to work, cannot earn money here, can only consume here, and job opportunities must be left to locals.
And the air ticket price of "New Caledonia" itself is very expensive, the general public is not very affordable, over time, "New Caledonia" slowly became a "rich resort" in France, and the price naturally slowly increased.
