In 1947, in the Williamson mining area of Tanzania, a young boy found a 54.5 ct pink diamond under a bread tree. Dr. Williamson, a Canadian geologist who owns the mine, presented the uncut 54.5 ct diamond to Queen Elizabeth as a wedding gift.

Artisans in London spent two months cutting and polishing it into a 23.6-carat round diamond 💎. In 1953, Cartier designed it as a flower brooch that Queen Elizabeth wore on several important occasions (fig. 1).

This brooch is in the shape of an edelweiss. The body is composed of platinum and diamonds 💎. On the stem and leaves, a total of 200 small sparkling diamonds are set with the stamen part of the famous 23.6 ct pink Williamson diamond.

The brooch is large in size and crystal clear in diamonds, especially the pink flower center. The shape of the elegant edelweiss flower (Fig. 3) symbolizes mystery, courage and important memories.

So Queen Elizabeth II also regarded this dream pink diamond brooch as a treasure. The brooch was worn on important occasions such as Charles and Diana's wedding, meeting with then-US President Barack Obama and his wife.
