I just can't die! Indian Ocean Hurricane Freddy has sucked up enough water vapor in the Indian Ocean since it formed in the waters south of Java Island on February 4, and it has not dissipated to this day. Freddy first crossed the island of Madagascar, then landed in Mozambique, reached eastern Zimbabwe, then turned back into the strait, wiped the west coast of Madagascar, and landed east in Mozambique, affecting landlocked Malawi. In this way, Freddie sat firmly on the throne of the longest-lived tropical cyclone on record.

Everywhere Freddie went, trees broke, houses collapsed, transportation and communications were disrupted, and an average of 400 millimetres of heavy precipitation was brought. In the worst-hit Madagascar, about 2.2 million people were affected by the typhoon, hitting the economy of this less developed country with a GDP per capita of less than $500. Now in Malawi, also a least developed country, Freddy caused Lake Malawi to skyrocket, flooding nearby villages and killing at least 99 people in the typhoon.
