Falklands are on the rise! Argentina has reiterated its demand that Britain restart negotiations on sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands and terminate the Foradori-Duncan Pact agreement signed between the two countries in 2016, which the British side strongly resisted.

The Malvinas Islands, abbreviated as Falkland Islands, are an archipelago located in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 500 kilometers from mainland Argentina and about 13,000 kilometers from the British mainland, with an area of 11,800 square kilometers and a population of about 3,000 people.

France, Britain, Spain and Argentina have all established settlements on the island. Britain reaffirmed its colonial rule in 1833, but Argentina still claimed sovereignty over the island. In 1982, Argentina launched a military reconquest of the islands, which led to the outbreak of the Falklands War, after which Argentina was defeated by the British army and withdrew, and Britain once again claimed sovereignty over the islands. However, Argentina has not given up its claim to sovereignty over the Falklands, and Britain, believing that sovereignty over the island has been settled, has repeatedly refused to negotiate with Argentina.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: "The Falkland Islands 'belong to the United Kingdom and the islanders have the right to determine their own future – they choose [the island] to remain a British Overseas Self-Governing Territory." ”
