The Republic of Vanuatu, abbreviated as Vanuatu, is located in the western South Pacific, between 13° and 23° south latitude, 166° and 172° east longitude, and a north-south distance of about 850 kilometers.

It is an island of Melanesia located 1900 km east of Brisbane, Australia, 800 km west of Fiji, 230 km north of New Caledonia and 170 km south of Solomon Islands, consisting of 83 islands (68 of which are inhabited). The largest island is Santo (area 3947 km²).

The country has a land area of 860,000 square kilometers and has a tropical maritime climate.

Vanuatu people lived here thousands of years ago.

It was discovered by Spanish explorers in 1606.

The French arrived here in 1768.

In 1774, British Captain Cook arrived and named the place "New Hebrides".

In October 1906, Britain and France signed the Condominium Convention, and the area became a Anglo-French condominium colony.

In 1963, indigenous peoples formed their first political party, the Village Party, to demand land repossession and independence. Internal self-government was introduced in January 1978.

Independence on 30 July 1980. After independence, Walter Lini, leader of the New Hebritic National Party (later renamed the Vanuaku Party, or Waku Party), became the first prime minister and Sokomanu became president.

It is rectangular in shape and has a ratio of length to width of 18:11. It is composed of four colors: red, green, black and yellow.

The yellow horizontal "Y" shape with black edges divides the flag into three pieces, and the side of the flagpole is a black isosceles triangle, with a double-ringed pig's tooth and a "nanoli" leaf pattern; On the right side are two equal right-angled trapezoids of red and green at the bottom.

The horizontal "Y" shape indicates the distribution shape of the country's islands; Yellow symbolizes the sun shining across the country; Black represents the color of the people; Red symbolizes blood; Green symbolizes the lush vegetation growing on fertile land.

Pig teeth symbolize the country's traditional wealth, it is common for people to raise pigs, and pork is an important food in people's daily lives;

The "Namiri" leaf is the leaf of a sacred tree believed by the local people, symbolizing sacredness and auspiciousness.
