Crash landing on the Hudson River: On January 15, 2009, an American Airlines Flight 1549 collided with a flock of Canadian geese, causing engine failure shortly after takeoff from New York's JFK Airport. Captain Chesley Sullenberger made a forced landing and successfully landed safely on the Hudson River, avoiding any casualties.
Japanese domestic flight crashes with a bird: In February 2015, a Japanese domestic flight All Nippon Airways 175 collided with a bird sideways, causing engine failure and the plane eventually crashed. The accident killed a total of 49 people on board and one staff member on the ground.
John F. Kennedy International Airport Bird Strike: In January 2018, a Dominican Boeing 737-800 aircraft crashed into a flock of birds after taking off from New York's JFK International Airport, causing engine damage and requiring an emergency return. The plane landed safely, but none of the 172 passengers and six crew members on board were injured in the accident.
