Portuguese people rally to protest the rising cost of living
According to Reuters, on February 25, local time, thousands of people took to the streets of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, to demand better living conditions, at a time when high inflation made it more difficult for people to make ends meet.
The data shows that inflation in Portugal has been high since last April, and has been above 8% for nine consecutive months.
In Western Europe, #Portugal#'s economy is relatively backward. Low wages and high rents make Lisbon one of the least livable cities in Europe, a problem exacerbated by inflation.
Vitor David, a 26-year-old programmer, said he hopes to move back to Lisbon one day, but now has to live further away because Lisbon rents are too expensive. He said he would move to a richer European country if possible.
