At present, the top five manufacturers in the smartphone industry are Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo, and their mobile phone sales have declined to varying degrees in 2022. Looking only at sales in the fourth quarter of 2022, Apple fell 14.9% year-on-year to 72.3 million units, Samsung fell 15.6% year-on-year to 58.2 million units, and Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo fell 26.3%, 15.9% and 18.9% year-on-year, with sales of 33.2 million units, 25.3 million units and 22.9 million units, respectively.

From the perspective of the whole year, Samsung's total sales ranked first with 260.9 million units, but it still fell by 4.1% year-on-year; Apple's total sales ranked second with 226.4 million units, down 4% year-on-year; Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo all fell by double digits, 18.8%, 22.7% and 22.8%, respectively, corresponding to annual sales of 153.1 million units, 103.3 million units and 99 million units, respectively.

IDC believes that this situation is caused by a sharp decline in consumer demand, inflation and economic uncertainty, and this situation will continue for a long time, and it is expected that the recovery will not begin until the end of 2023, which means that this year's smartphone sales are still not optimistic.
