Seeing Sun Honglei's style in the movie, he shouted "Who is the king?!" ”

Text | Wang Chongyang LP

When Sun Honglei appeared in a foreign-language film, he sneered, "Are you ripe this melon?" "It seems a little disrespectful, after all, as a war blockbuster with a historical theme, "Mongol King" is serious and rigorous. It tells the growth history of a tragic hero on the grassland, if there is any regret, it is probably the two male protagonists, one is Asano Tadanobu from Japan, and the other is Sun Honglei of China.

I don't know what kind of casting considerations the director and screenwriter Sergei Podrov had at that time, but the confirmed candidates did not disappoint:

Asano Tadanobu plays Genghis Khan Temujin, and Sun Honglei plays his righteous brother Zamuhe.

A large amount of Mongolian dialogue in the film was completed by the two "personally", and the film's grand narrative and wonderful war scenes also earned it an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Perhaps Westerners are always a little obsessed with "Genghis Khan" and the Mongol Empire, and even after hundreds of years, they still can't get over the hurdle in their hearts:

The source of the Yellow Peril began with an inconspicuous tribe, and when this tribe called "Mongols" eventually became the name of an empire and a people, the rest of the power actually continues to this day.

But "Mongol King" is worth telling, in addition to the war scenes and the almost "original" service road, it is a narrative with a slight historical materialism in the eyes of Westerners -

Temujin still couldn't forget his bride when he went through all the hardships, and when he saw people, he said "let her wait for me", and later this woman became his strong backing.

Although Zamujin once told him in a serious way that "the Mongols should not start a war for a woman", the result was that Temujin not only hit others, but also his own "Anda".

The film narrates the world before Temujin's birth in a "fatalistic" tone:

The Jin Kingdom in the south (called the "Tunguska Empire" in the film) regards the steppe as a slave, and the tribes on the steppe continue to conquer each other, and chaos finally has the opportunity to usher in unification, which comes from hatred -

When Temujin was a child, his father was killed by enemies, the tribe scattered, his mother Han Xinru raised several brothers hard, caught wild mice and ate tree roots, and when he became an adult, he turned everywhere like Uncle Liu, and finally set up his own door, and in the process it was inevitable to "cordially communicate" with his neighbors, which gradually became a generation of great Khans.

The movie only tells the story of Temujin's killing of the enemy Liwei, so Genghis Khan's growth history stops at the "Mongol King" in the story, and then shoots later...

It doesn't seem to be polite to anyone today.

However, the plot of the whole story is still quite good, in addition to Zamuhe's sentence "Don't let others know that you are waging war for women", and Temujin's own words "Finding a bride is the hardest thing." ”

The main creator obviously downplayed the symbolism of the wolf white deer a lot, and just told the audience:

Let's put aside everything first, just look at the tragic and romantic growth history of a man, in this period of history, this man does not belong to any culture, nor does it belong to any foreign history, he is just a character who grew up in the steppe, not whose "ancestors", and do not need to write a special book "We followed him on an expedition to Europe..."

Moreover, throughout the ages, politicians do not care whether they are right or wrong, but only their objective impact on a historical process.

So not to talk about "political motives", this movie is really well made, especially in terms of the professionalism of the actors, Mr. Tadanobu Asano, who plays Temujin, is a mess for most of the film, and the live-action shooting seems to have "degenerated" his spiritual intelligence into a steppe slave who was bent on survival at that time, and the desolation and despair that can be felt across the screen is still moving.

This is also the reason why I was surprised and lamented every time I saw him appear in "Thor", "Super Battleship" and "Mortal Kombat":

The Hollywood stage has never been for Asians.

Before and after, whether it was Chow Yun-fat, Jet Li or Sanada Hiroyuki and Asano Tadanobu, they only became a foil for others when they went to Hollywood.

There is a saying, foreigners are "correct" again, and their hands and feet finally voted for the box office, which belongs to the one who says correctly in mouth and is very honest in body.

It's really not as interesting as interpreting a former historical figure in the same cultural context.

To put it bluntly, most audiences today know more about Mongolia and Mongolian culture than they can sing and dance, and the early history of Beijing being called "Dadu" is only a few decades, in response to the ancient adage that "Hu people have no luck for a hundred years".

As for the time when the ethnic groups were not yet harmonious, only Mr. Jin Yong used the figure of Qiao Fengqiao's gang leader to describe the concept of "there is only good and evil in the world, and there is no nation". Whether it is the Khitans, Jurchens, Turks, or Mongolians, the difference between the opposites is only whether they have caused great harm to ordinary people, while the position and angle all depend on which side the ass of the later generations of historical writers sits.

Speaking of the "butt" problem, "Mongol King" is probably the first film and television work I have seen that raises Temujin's friends and enemies who love and kill each other to a height:

When Temujin was still being chased and killed and died in the vast snow, without Zamuhe's several helps, the history of the entire world might have been rewritten.

And Sun Honglei fully shows the confident and talented side of this character in the film, his wisdom is no less than Temujin, and he also has incomparable political foresight and ideal ambition, when two almost identical people unfortunately become "brothers", the end of the story can naturally be imagined.

According to the "Yuan History", in 1189 AD, Temujin and Zamujin had the "Battle of the Thirteen Wings", and although Zamujin won a great victory, it also caused a conflict with his buzhen, and later lost after a battle with Temujin.

In 1204, after being defeated by Temujin, Zamujin betrayed his subordinates and became prisoner, and interestingly, Temujin first killed two of his subordinates who betrayed him, and then ordered his execution after a long conversation with Zamujin.

Whether it is the "Yuan History" or other visible historical records, the evaluation of Zamuhe is very high, which is an affirmation that is almost "official certification", and it is probably only Xiang Yu in the Chu-Han dispute that can barely be compared to it.

In fact, in all known records, the name "Zamuhe" has always been inseparable from Temujin's growth history, and playing a generation of heroes must be Mr. Sun Honglei's first choice.

However, looking at "King of Mongolia" from the perspective of a Russian person regardless of identity alone, it is obviously not the same as Chinese -

Especially in recent years, Russian film and television dramas have filmed works such as "Golden Horde" and "Turkic Empire" one after another, which is somewhat a "condescending" attitude to suggest that "these former rulers are now naturalized as us Russians".

Although, but...

"History has always been written by the victors", somewhat helplessly.

However, as a war movie, it is still worth recommending.

At least all the grievances are not evaluated, equestrian and riding shooting, and the romantic feelings of the sky and the wilderness are really wonderful.
