The accumulation of ice creates the illusion of a frozen waterfall, with icicles forming the edge of the border and frozen mist shrouding the surrounding trees, truly creating a winter wonderland! According to Niagara Parks records, the falls froze in 1848 due to sub-zero temperatures and glacier accumulation preventing the flow of water. Since then, the waterfall has never been completely frozen again!

These waves are an important part of the ice cave, frozen in layers and carved under the influence of wind, sun and ice changes. As the temperature continues to drop, secondary ice layers at a faster rate. The almost frozen waves continue to have a superimposed effect on the formation of ice, creating the popular ice cave.

The location of the ice cave varies from year to year, and in some of the warmer winters ice caves do not even form at all. However, the northern Ontario city of Sault Ste. Marie is a top choice for visiting these special attractions on Lake Superior, Ontario. Whenever snowy winter comes, the cave turns into a world of ice, leaving everyone hooked.

The ice caves on Lake Superior in Ontario, despite their grand appearance, are a fragile and fleeting natural phenomenon. With rising temperatures and milder winters in northern Ontario, whether they will continue to exist is far from certain. In addition, as the lake freezes thinner and more prone to collapse, warmer weather makes it increasingly dangerous to try to see these unique ice formations up close on the ice. If possible, we highly recommend finding a local guide who can help you safely explore the ice cave. Still, seeing the magnificent views of Lake Superior ice caves before they disappear forever is a life-changing experience. And watch and cherish it~

The ice cave has been beautiful for the past few years, but it is not known what kind of sight will be created this year . In any case, the lake and surrounding forests will definitely look their best under the snow cover.

Ice sculpture

If ice waterfalls and ice caves are treasures given to us by nature, then ice sculptures, unique works of art in winter, are people's return to nature.
