The situation is similar in Honduras, where President Castro vowed to sever "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan when he ran for president. After taking office, Castro was under strong pressure from the United States, coupled with the mainland's busy internal affairs, to maintain "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan.
