The Myanmar National Administration Commission released information that in order to commemorate the 71st Kayah State Day, on the morning of January 15, in front of the Kayah State Legu City Hall, the opening ceremony of the archway was held. Unexpectedly, there was an accident at the opening ceremony, which was attacked by KNPP and PDF artillery fire, and the shells exploded near the state hall and residential areas, killing one man and injuring some security personnel, 6 students, 1 man, and 1 woman.

Burmese media reported that at about 7:15 a.m. on January 15, the opening ceremony of the torii in front of the Bangbang Hall in Leigu City was attacked by drones, injuring four police officers and six others who performed at the ceremony. After the attack, the military fought back, killing one man.

It is reported that on January 13, Leigu PDF issued a message asking the public not to participate in the Kayah State Day activities and other activities held by the authorities under the State Management Commission.

It is unclear which group was responsible for the attack.
