Siberian Tiger Wang Jialiang's Memoirs of Chess Career (1) First acquaintance with chess, thanks to Mr. Jin Qichang

Wang Jialiang: a native of Huang County, Shandong, born in 1933, he makes good use of the layout of the Chinese artillery crossing the river, with a brave chess style, bold and strong offensive and killing power, so it is known as the "Siberian tiger". In 1956, 1959 and 1959, he won the runner-up of the first, second and fourth national chess tournaments; By 1981, it had finished in the top six seven times. In 1982, he was awarded the title of Chinese Xiangqi Master, and in 1984, he was awarded the title of Chinese Xiangqi Grandmaster. Since 1979, he has been the editor-in-chief of "Northern Chess Art" (now "Chess Art"), and in 1985, he became the vice president of Heilongjiang Chess Institute.

You are from Shandong, how did you come to Northeast China to put down roots?

It all started with my father, my hometown is in Huang County, Shandong Province, and my grandfather is a teacher with a meager income. There are many people in my hometown, and life at home is very difficult. Forced by life, my father and uncle left their hometown and ran to the northeast to seek a living, which is the so-called crossing of the Guandong. When my father came to Harbin, he could be said to have nothing, and he and his uncle were apprenticed in a furniture store called Dongfa He, barely eating together. My father studied in a furniture store for five or six years, and when the Harbin flood broke out in 1932, my father returned to Shandong, and my uncle stayed in Harbin alone.

After I was born in 1933, life at home became even more difficult, and my father had no choice, so he came to the northeast alone. My mother has four sisters, my second aunt's family lives in Heihe, and my father did not go to Harbin this time, but went to the second aunt's house. My father spoke a little Russian, and he and his uncle went to the border of each of the Samsan to barter with the Soviets. At that time, there was a saying called "bluffing old Maozi", that is, the Soviets were more realistic, and almost did not hear of any deception Chinese. After running like this for two or three years, because he couldn't make any money and had to run back and forth on the border, my father didn't plan to do it anymore.

My uncle had a house in Sunwu County and lent my father a grocery store. At that time, there were many mountains and forests in the northeast, relying on the mountains to eat mountains, and grocery stores sold some mountain products such as fungus, so that my father's life finally settled down. So my mother took the four-year-old me to Sunwu County.

First acquaintance with chess

How did you learn to play chess?

My father loved to play chess and walk corner horses. Sunwu County has a strong chess style, and his father can rank third in the county, which is not much different from the top two. There is a small market in the county, very prosperous, in front of a library for a long time in front of a chess game, as long as it does not rain, many people surround every day. My father often went there to play chess, and when he was addicted, he didn't know to go home to eat, and my mother asked me to call him when she was cooked. My father always told me to wait a while and go back after this plate. I squatted next to me and watched, and after a long time I learned it, and then I played a set or two. But at that time, I was young, I played a lot of things, and I was not yet hooked on chess.

Father died

When I was a teenager, the situation in the northeast was very tense, and because of the defeat in Southeast Asian countries, Japan tried to keep the fat of the northeast. My father forgot to turn off the lights during an air defense exercise, but he was captured by the Japanese gendarmerie and thrown in a water prison for more than ten days. After being released, he contracted edema disease and died in more than half a year. Not long after his father's death, the Soviet Red Army entered the Northeast. Sunwu County has a river, which is divided into Southern Sunwu and Northern Sunwu. A vanguard of more than 1,000 people of the Soviet Red Army was ambushed by the Japanese in Northern Sun Wu, killing several hundred. As soon as the large army behind came up, the ambushed Japanese troops could not hold out and began to retreat to Nansun Wu. When they reached the river, the bridge was blown up, and thousands of Japanese soldiers died in the river. Because the Soviet army was ambushed, the Soviet army became angry at the Chinese and arrested all the people of Beisun Wu except for the woman and the child, and later I only knew that two people ran back. There was a huge military fortification in the mountains of Nansun Wu, where hundreds of thousands of Japanese troops were stationed. The Soviet Red Army had no way to continue its advance, so it was at a stalemate from south to north. But it didn't take long for the Japanese emperor to announce his unconditional surrender. I clearly remember a Japanese lieutenant general hanged and watched from a lot of Chinese, which is what I remember as the August 15 reconquest.

Although the war is over, life cannot go on. His father died, and Sunwu County, which had been bleaked by the war, was dilapidated, and the school was blown to the ground. My mother had to leave the grocery store and take me out of the place to join my uncle in Harbin.

The beginning of a chess career

My uncle and father came to Harbin together for apprenticeships, and he stayed here when my father returned to Shandong, where he worked hard for several years and opened a small furniture store. After arriving in Harbin, my mother planned to let me enter the first high school and continue my studies, but I was fascinated by chess at this time.

One of the famous five tiger generals in Harbin at that time, surnamed Tian, played a game of chess with me to make two horses, and the game ended up being drawn. The surname Tian said: "This kid is quite powerful. So he told me a place, a game of chess in Daoli Seven Avenues, and asked me to go there and play. My family lives on Badaojie, very close, so I went. The chess game is at the door of a dyeing shop on Qidao Street, and the owner of the dyeing house is surnamed Lu, and his chess power is average. Harbin's famous Five Tigers often go there to play chess, and I soak there every day and benefit a lot. What really affected my future was that I met my "enlightenment teacher" Mr. Kim Ki-chang there. Mr. Jin is also one of the five tiger generals, he is quite easy-going and writes with an excellent brush hand. Seeing that I didn't seem to understand the opening and endgame, he led me to his home and lent me his collection of books such as "The Secret of Oranges", "Plum Blossom Spectrum", and "Suitable Taste". Every day I saw that I was late with my book, and I threw aside the matter of going to school early.

How did you play chess when you were in Sunwu County?

At that time, I just knew how to go down, but I didn't like it very much. Mainly because my father was good at chess, he was often asked to play chess, and I rarely went to play. My father didn't play chess with me, he was good at chess and sometimes gave me advice.

Then you didn't start playing chess until you arrived in Harbin.

Yes, my uncle opened a small furniture store on Daoli Ba Dao Street, and I lived in the backyard. Since I met Mr. Jin in Qidao Street, I began to read the books he gave me, which are the more important "Secret of Oranges" and "Plum Blossom Scores" in the "Chess Scores". When I watched "Suitable Taste", I became very interested in killing chess, and after a long time, I could calculate more than a dozen kills just by looking at the picture. Mr. Kim also gave me a pair of chess pieces, which were made of hardwood, with excellent inscriptions on them, and this chess piece also had a very "origin". During the Manchurian period, a chess tournament was held in Harbin, and Mr. Jin defeated the crowd and won the championship, and this chess piece was the prize. I liked this chess piece so much that I made a wooden chess board and went to the park (today's Zhaolin Park) every day to play chess. There were still some animals in the park at that time, and the most interesting thing was the chess performance on a large platform. Each chess piece is the size of a washbasin and has to be moved by a child when playing chess. I was immersed in the park every day, and I was fascinated by chess and didn't go to school.

During this time, my chess has improved rapidly, and I have a basic understanding of the chess scene in Harbin. At that time, the two most powerful people in Harbin were Wang Ruoquan and Mao Ruge. Wang Ruoquan is a young Chinese medicine practitioner, later became a professor of traditional Chinese medicine, Mao Ruge's family lives outside, because of a bad eye, chess friends call him Mao blind, nicknamed Mao Daxia.

When I first met Wang Ruoquan, I lost to him, and about half a year later, I asked him to play chess again, and I ended up drawing three games in a row, and he has not played chess with me since.

At this time, you have a bit of a reputation in the chess world.

Anyway, there are very few opponents in Harbin, and this has to mention a person. This person's name is Wang Jingxuan, he is the first master after the five tiger generals, and if anyone can win him, he can be regarded as a first-class master in Harbin, and this person can be regarded as a ruler in the Harbin chess world at that time. Once we were chattering in the Taiji Trigram Hall, and Wang Jingxuan talked about Xie Xiaxun's blind chess game, and how powerful he was. As soon as I heard it, I said, "That's nothing, I can play blind chess." He didn't believe it, so he had to try it with me. In fact, I also played blind chess before, that is, I often read chess books, and I had a good memory when I was young, so I played blind chess with him like this, and I won him. So he wrote a book called "Fearful Afterlife - Harbin Chess Three Boys". In fact, playing blind chess is not a great thing now, as long as it is a master.

Who are the three chess teenagers referring to?

The first refers to Wang Ruoquan from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the second is Mao Blind, and the third is me. Later, Wang Ruoquan concentrated on the study of medicine and did not have time to play chess, so his apprentice Zhang Donglu took his place.

Zhang Donglu's chess is very good, and one day he told me that a master came from Shenyang, and he won the blind man in the first game. As soon as I heard it, I ran to Zhang Donglu's house to invite this person to play chess. This person's name is Cao Hongqi, nicknamed Cao Brush, and this time he came to Harbin on business. We played two games of chess at Zhang Donglu's house, and if I lost one game and one game, he stopped playing with me. Because he later lost two games of chess to the blind man, he always looked for the blind man and wanted to get it back.

Half a year later, he came to Harbin from Shenyang, and I went to play chess with him again, and he lost. He told me about some masters in Shenyang, including eight monsters, four fierce generals, and five masters. He said: "You have to have the opportunity to go to Shenyang and meet these people for a while. "And he also told me that the chess style in Shenyang and Changchun is very strong.

Before I went to Shenyang, I went to Changchun and met Liu Fengchun through introduction. I lost the first game I played with him, and he watched it for 15 minutes in the first step, and he played very slowly. When it came to the middle game, there was a very simple move that he watched for 80 minutes, which is also a long test in Go. I wasn't patient enough to sit on the bench, and I lost the game. The two of us became good friends because of chess, so he introduced me to the Lujia Tea House in Shenyang, where there are many masters.

How did you get to Shenyang?

I was an apprentice in a factory in Harbin, and my factory had opened a branch in Shenyang, which had just been built and needed to go to a group of workers. Originally, I didn't plan to let me go, but I was worried that I would be a master of Shenyang for a while, so I strongly requested to go to the branch factory in Shenyang.

After arriving in Shenyang, I followed Liu Fengchun's instructions to the Lujia Tea House. Lujia Tea House is in Shenyang North Market, although the name is Tea House, in fact, people who come to the tea house play chess. Every morning for two cents for a pot of good tea, you can play chess and chat there all day.

The business of the Lujia Tea House is good, and many local masters play chess there.

Do you play chess a lot?

No, there was no chess in the northeast at that time, and it was more prevalent in the south.

At the Lujia Tea House, I first met Dong Yuke, who was nicknamed the king of cannons, and successively had a very powerful hand cannon. After I won, there was another one named Tie Linjiu, who was even better than Dong Yuke, but I still won, and later when I fought Xue Jiayu again, I couldn't win. However, the most regrettable thing is that he did not meet Shenyang's number one master, Na Liuxu, who had won the third place in Manchuria, and Cui Shijie, a Shenyang master. I regretted to return to Harbin, and a new thought arose in my mind.
