#Species Protection in Germany#Germany 2023 "Bird of the Year" results announced, with 135,000 netizens voting this year, and Braunkehlchen won the title with more than 58,000 votes. Special attention is also paid to the following birds: sparrows, red-backed shrikes, wagtails and black water fowls.

It is 12 to 14 cm long , brown on the chest and throat , and inhabits moist meadows , fallow land , and field edges. They feed on insects such as spiders and worms, and pick up some berries in autumn. There are currently 19,500 to 35,000 pairs of steppe stonebirds in Germany, and although they are still relatively common in Germany, especially in the east and northeast, the number is declining year by year. Prairie stonebirds prefer areas with lower population density and prefer natural environments that have not been modified by humans.

In this way, the German Union for Conservation of Nature selects threatened birds in Europe, draws attention to them, and protects the environment on which they depend. The protection of biodiversity is an important concern for the German Government. In anticipation of the World Congress on Nature in Montreal in December, the Federal Chancellor announced over the summer that Germany would increase its funding for global biodiversity to 1.5 billion euros per year by 2025.
