India is only about one-tenth the size of Africa, but the population is comparable, and India's population density is much higher than that of Africa. Most of India's states have a population of more than 20 million, three states (West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar) with a population of 100 million to 200 million, and Uttar Pradesh has a population of 240 million, which is the world's most populous provincial administrative region, and can be ranked 5th in the world.
Most countries in Africa have populations below 50 million, 4 with 50 million to 100 million, 2 with 100 million to 200 million (Egypt and Ethiopia), and only Nigeria over 200 million.
fertility rate
India is about to become the world's most populous country, but unlike many people realize, India's fertility rate is not high, and India cannot live. There are only five states in India with a total fertility rate of more than 2.1, concentrated in the Ganges River Valley, with hundreds of millions of people in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which are the main drivers of India's population growth. Most of India's states have total fertility rates between 1.5 and 2.1, and several states have fallen below 1.5. (Internationally, 2.1 is used as the generational replacement level).
Most countries in Africa are above 2.1, there are as many as 10 countries above 5, and only one below 2.1, that is, Mauritius, only 1.4, all at the same level as Russia. Mauritius is the country with the highest level of development in Africa and is referred to below.
life expectancy
Life expectancy is an important indicator of the level of development, life expectancy is an estimate calculated based on the current mortality rate, and if mortality increases at all ages, life expectancy will decrease, and when mortality falls, life expectancy will rise.
There are no states with life expectancy under 60 years old in India, there are 4 states with 60-65 years old, most of the states are 65-75 years old, and only Kerala is over 75 years old, Kerala is the most developed state in India, and he will be mentioned later.
North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa are not on the same level, North Africa is over 70 years old, but only Algeria is over 75 years old. Only three small island States in sub-Saharan Africa are over 70 years old, and most are under 65 years of age. Life expectancy in South Africa is not high, because the epidemic and poor social security have led to a high mortality rate and naturally high life expectancy.
Proportion of population aged 65 and over
People aged 65 and over account for more than 7% of the total population and are considered to be in an aging society.
Most of India's states are ageing, with Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Goa in the south, and Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in the northwest all at 12%-16%. With over 16 per cent, Kerala has entered a severely ageing society.
Due to extremely high fertility rates and low life expectancy, most countries in Africa do not have to worry about population aging.
Only Morocco, Tunisia and Seychelles reached 7-12 per cent, and only Mauritius exceeded 12 per cent.
GDP per capita
GDP per capita, the two populous states of northern India, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, is less than $1,000, other states in the Ganges Valley are more than $1,000-2,000, and southern and northwestern states are more than $2,000. The state with the highest GDP per capita in India is Goa at about $6,300.
Most of the landlocked countries in Africa are less than $1,000, the Atlantic countries are mostly $2,000-5,000, only 6 countries are $5,000-$10,000, and only Seychelles is more than $10,000.
Poverty rate
This poverty rate is the national line, that is, the poverty line drawn by the Indian states and African countries themselves. The lowest poverty rate in India is in Kerala at 0.71 per cent. Goa, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweah Islands are also below 10%. The highest poverty rate in India is in Chhattisgarh, which is as high as 40%.
Only Morocco, Algeria and Mauritius are under 10 per cent in Africa, while most of the remaining countries are above 30 per cent. South Sudan, the youngest country, has a poverty rate of 82%.
Adult population literacy rate
India's overall literacy rate is 74 per cent, with only Kerala, Mizoram and Lakshadweah Islands exceeding 90 per cent. Africa as a whole is 66 per cent, and only six countries exceed 90 per cent.
Homicide rate
The homicide rate is the number of homicides per 100,000 population that year, India as a whole is 2.1 per 100,000, the lowest is Kerala, only 0.9 per 100,000, and the highest is Jharkhand, which is 4.1 per 100,000. Compared to Africa, India's homicide rate is relatively low.
There are only four countries in Africa with less than 1 in 100,000 — Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and the Gambia. The Gambia, which is on fire due to online jokes, has good social security in Africa. South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini have very high homicide rates, ranking in the top 20 globally, and only those in Latin America can compare with them.
