Wu Zuoren (November 3, 1908-April 9, 1997), male, from Xuanchengjing County, Anhui, born in Suzhou, Jiangsu, entered the Department of Architecture of Suzhou Technical College in 1926, studied at Shanghai University of the Arts, the Department of Fine Arts of Nanguo Academy of Arts and the Art Department of Nanjing Central University from 1927 to early 1930, under the tutelage of Mr. Xu Beihong, and participated in the Nanguo Innovation Movement. In his early years, he studied sketching and oil painting, and in his later years, he specialized in Chinese painting, with a broad realm and far-reaching meaning, integrating Chinese and Western art with a condensed and accurate image, and is another leading figure in the Chinese art world after Xu Beihong.
Mr. Wu Zuoren has profound achievements in oil painting and art education, and he is even more unique in the creation of Chinese painting. Chinese painting is especially famous for painting goldfish, Mr. Wu Zuoren's goldfish is a masterpiece, as a generation of everyone, Wu Zuoren's achievements in Chinese painting are very high, his goldfish, only a few strokes, full of spirit, the picture is clean and flexible.

In 1984, the French Ministry of Culture awarded him the "Supreme Order of Arts and Literature", and in 1986 the King of Belgium awarded him the "Crown of Honor".
Wu Zuoren was the provost, vice president, and president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and vice chairman of the China Artists Association. He was elected as a deputy to the 1st to 6th National People's Congress, a member of the Standing Committee of the 6th National People's Congress, a standing member of the 7th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, and the director of the Cultural Committee. He was formerly a professor and honorary president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and chairman of the China Artists Association.
Wu Zuoren sincerely takes nature as a teacher, but also resolutely opposes being a slave to nature, and always vigorously carries out artistic creation, making choices, exaggerations, deformations, transposition, processing, and refinement. The creation of the panda image is the concrete embodiment of Wu Zuoren's artistic concept of creating heavenly craftsmanship.
In order to express a childish taste, Mr. Wu boldly discarded the real portrayal of the little red eyes with blood, and summarized the panda as a combination of black and white color blocks. It fully embodies the composition principle of formal beauty and embodies the interest of calligraphy art. In this way, from life to art, a qualitative leap has been experienced. Mr. Wu's panda image is a typical example of the beauty he created that expresses the simplicity and cuteness, childishness and simplicity.
Mr. Wu strives to integrate poetry, calligraphy and painting, and pursues natural beauty, formal beauty, artistic conception and temperament beauty. In 1988, Wu Zuoren, who was awarded the gold medal and laurel honor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Belgium in the thirties, was awarded the "Crown of Honor" by the King of Belgium.
