  • Mike Hutjens, who grew up on a Holstein farm near Green Bay, Wisconsin, received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • From 1971 to 1979, Dr. Hutjens worked as a dairy extension specialist at the University of Minnesota and coached the national championship team at the World Dairy Expo in 1978. He has been a member of the Department of Animal Science at the University of Illinois since 1979 as a dairy extension specialist. He has conducted 60 to 70 meetings in 46 states, 17 countries, and 9 Canadian provinces. Mike writes synopsis columns for Hoard's Dairyman, Progressive Dairyman, and hosts Hoard's Dairy monthly webinars.
  • Awards include: the American Dairy Science Association's Purina Award for Undergraduate Teaching, the National DeLaval Extension Worker Award, ADSA, ADSA's Applied Nutrition Award, Outstanding Outside Lecturer (University Award) in 1993 and 2000, and two citations from the Minnesota Board of Trustees. Mike is president of the American Dairy Science Association and was named "Service Person of the Year" by the World Dairy Expo in 2008. In 2009, he received honorable awards from ADSA and Fellow, the "Eagle Award" from the IL Farm Bureau Association, the 2013 National DHI Service Award, and the 2019 Dairy Shrine Person of the Year Award.
