We all know that some spiders are non-toxic, but some spiders are poisonous, as far as studies have shown that the venom of a highly toxic spider can poison a cow, today I will take you to understand the "black widow" spider.

Black Widow spider

The black widow spider, just by hearing the name, knows that it is scary, and its name comes from the fact that female spiders tend to eat male spiders after mating. The Black Widow spider is a spider with strong neurotoxins. Of all the known spider species, Black Widow is the most toxic. Not to mention that it is one of the most powerful neurotoxin spiders in the world, that is to say, it is a highly toxic spider. Studies have shown that it is 15 times more toxic than the rattlesnake, which is known to be a venomous snake that is poisonous enough to kill death. However, fortunately, the black widow spider secretes less toxins, and if it is attacked, it is not fatal and dangerous, but it is extremely painful.

Black Widow's physical features

A typical characteristic of the black widow spider is that the female of the poisonous spider is the most common spider, and the surface is black and shiny. On its ventral surface there is an hourglass-shaped shape, with a more colorful hourglass-shaped pattern.

The Black Widow poisonous spider is about 2.5 cm (1 in) long. Males are only 1/4 the size of females. In addition to the hourglass-shaped pattern, there are 4 pairs of light red stripes on the sides of the male abdomen.

Black Widow's life habits

Red-backed spiders are typical self-eaters: not only the female spider eats its male after mating. When living conditions are difficult and food is scarce, they feed on their own. Sometimes the spiders that grow in a litter of small spiders grow entirely by eating their companions, which is the most perfect expression of their animal optimization ability to survive the strong.

How toxic is it

Recently, Xiamen Customs caught a live spider in a batch of imported car containers when supervising them. Identified as the interspotted spider, commonly known as "Black Widow", it is one of the most toxic spiders in the world, more than ten times more toxic than the rattlesnake.

The correct way to deal with it after being bitten by a poisonous spider

After being bitten by a spider, immediately wash the wound with soap and water, and apply a cold compress to the wound. For adults, aspirin or acetaminophen can be used to relieve bite symptoms, and it is important to remember that aspirin should not be given to children, and acetaminophen can be used instead. Children under the age of six and adults/persons with severe symptoms should go to the hospital for medical care.

If bitten by a brown spider or black widow:

1. If the wound is on the arm or leg, a gentle bandage can be tied above the wound to slow down or even stop the spread of venom. Make sure the bandage is not tied too tightly, as it can impede blood circulation in the arms or thighs.

2. Apply a cold compress to the wound. You can use a cloth dampened with ice water or add ice cubes to the cloth.

3. Seek medical attention. For wounded people bitten by black widows, antitoxin drugs are administered. For injured people who have been bitten by brown spiders, doctors usually use corticosteroids to treat the injured person.

Standard treatment is generally symptomatic, including analgesia, muscle flaccidity, and, less commonly, antivenoms. Toxin generally does not cause disease at the bite wound unless there is a secondary infection.
