Xining, 26 Nov (Xinhua) -- In early winter, the grass and trees on the plateau are turning yellow, but a plantation in Kangyang Town, Jianzha County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, is full of greenery. At present, the dragon fruit hanging with branches in the greenhouse has entered the picking period, and Bai Hengwei is wearing a straw hat on his head, walking through the fields, cutting fruits and loading baskets, busy non-stop.

In 2019, Bai Hengwei came to Jianzha County, located on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, where clean water and abundant light and heat gave him the idea of developing ecological agriculture.

In the process of investigating new agriculture in Shaanxi, Shandong and other places, Bai Hengwei believes that relying on greenhouses and modern technology, it is not difficult to grow tropical fruits on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. After returning to Kangyang Town, Jianzha County, he contracted 30 greenhouses in one go, "It turns out that this saline-alkali land can no longer produce much grain due to excessive fertilization and soil compaction. ”

By consulting agricultural and forestry experts and farming experts, Bai Hengwei made soil improvement his first task, watering over and over again, turning the ground and loosening the soil, and then applying soil amendments such as organic fertilizers and biological bacteria. "After a year of improvement, the soil forms a agglomerate structure, which is loosened when you hold it in your hand and scatter like powder." Bai Hengwei believes that in order for fruit seedlings to grow well, they must first raise the soil, and the root system "breathes" better in loose soil in order to promote increased yield.

After passing the hurdle of soil remediation, we have ushered in the test of "temperature control". Now in order to keep warm in winter, Bai Hengwei usually has to cover the greenhouse with quilts before sunset. In summer, excessive temperatures will burn plants, so it is necessary to pull a shade net on the roof of the shed and ventilate it in time.

After continuous exploration, the dragon fruit cultivated by Bai Hengwei successfully hung fruit, watermelon, figs and other fruits not only attracted people to pick in the garden, but also sold to Beijing, Tianjin and other places through cold chain logistics. "Due to the high quality and original ecology, although the price of their own fruit is higher than the market average, it is still in short supply." Bai Hengwei said.

This year, Bai Hengwei tried to cultivate high-end fruit varieties such as bird's nest fruit, "combined with the new double-layer frame technology, the mu yield is expected to double from the current 2,000 jin." Bai Hengwei said.

As fruit production continues to increase, more than 30 villagers in the vicinity work on Bai Hengwei's plantation to increase their income. Ma Selimai, a villager in Ximora Village, Kangyang Town, has been working on the plantation for three years, not only buying electric cars, but also mastering planting techniques such as planting seedlings and pruning.

In his spare time, Bai Hengwei also shoots short videos to share his farming life and planting experience on social platforms. "Agricultural development should attach importance to the application of agricultural science and technology." Bai Hengwei said that in the future, it is planned to build intelligent greenhouses with precise temperature control and automatic fertilization to drive more people to work and become rich.
