On November 25, the Jing'an Branch of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau announced a case of manufacturing and selling counterfeit clothing of well-known brands. The upstream news (report email: [email protected]) reporter learned that the case was committed by a family gang, and from 2020, the sales amount reached 30 million yuan in 2 years.

At the end of August this year, some citizens reported to the Shanghai Jing'an police that they had purchased a Canada goose down jacket at a designated micro-store at a price of more than 500 yuan at a discount of 0.5 percent on the designated micro-store. After arriving at the goods, it was found that the clothes were rough and smelly, and the quality was quite different from the original, and it was suspected that a fake had been bought.

According to the clues provided by the public, the police investigated and found that the retail price of Canada goose down jackets and storm jackets that originally had an average price of more than 10,000 yuan in the online store was between 300 and 500 yuan. "Although the store clearly stated that they could provide receipts and vouchers such as gift boxes, appraisal certificates and customs certificates, the police found that the purchased clothing was counterfeit after inspecting the purchased clothing through professional institutions." According to the police handling the case, after several visits and investigations in other provinces and cities, a counterfeit brand clothing OEM located in a certain place in other provinces and cities was finally locked.

On September 8, the Jing'an police collected the factory in a centralized manner, arrested three criminal suspects led by Xiao, and seized more than 2,000 counterfeit clothing, more than 2,000 counterfeit registered trademarks, and more than 3,000 semi-finished products. After preliminary interrogation, the counterfeit clothing produced by the factory was mainly supplied to "Boss Zhang" in the same province and city.
After learning of this clue, on September 22, three groups of civilian police simultaneously carried out arrest operations at a garment processing factory and two sales and storage dens in the suburbs of other provinces and cities. Fifteen gang members, including Zhang Moumou, were arrested on the spot, 2 production lines were destroyed, and more than 20,000 pieces of counterfeit internationally renowned brand clothing, more than 5,000 counterfeit registered trademarks, and more than 5,000 counterfeit raw materials and semi-finished products were seized. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount involved reached more than 30 million yuan.

According to relevant law enforcement videos obtained by upstream news reporters, Zhang Moumou explained that since 2020, he has set up a fake sales team composed of 12 relatives and friends, and the team employees are mainly responsible for sales, packaging, delivery and other work. During the period, after purchasing the trademark of the counterfeit brand and the raw materials of clothing at a low price, he handed them over to the counterfeiting manufacturers in charge of his friends Chen Moumou and Wang Moumou for processing, and made finished clothing for sale. In the process, he met Xiao, the owner of the clothing foundry, through business contacts, and handed over part of the clothing orders to Xiao's factory in the same way.

Since October 2021, in order to disguise counterfeit products as genuine products for sale, Zhang Moumou registered an online store on a well-known e-commerce platform, simultaneously opened a micro-store in WeChat, and diverted customers to his micro-store by placing advertisements such as "private message customer service to obtain direct supply prices from manufacturers" in the circle of friends and online stores, inducing consumers to negotiate prices with customer service on WeChat, and finally conducting peer-to-peer transactions through online payment platforms and other channels, thereby evading the supervision of e-commerce platforms.
At present, 18 people, including Zhang Moumou, Chen Moumou and Wang Moumou, have been taken criminal compulsory measures by the Jing'an police in accordance with the law for the crime of selling goods with counterfeit registered trademarks, and the case is being further handled.
